It is a former military calibre. Thousands of hours will have gone into developing and perfecting it so as to kill a man (and do significant injury to a horse) just as with 7x57, 8x57, .303 and 30-06 and the various 6.5mm Mauser or Mannlicher offerings. Have no doubt of its ability to kill deer. All quarter inch bore and above military calibres in service during the dawn of the 20th Century are effective deer medicine.

The first K31 I bought was before the Swiss released them to the surplus market. I was working for a man rebarreling M1 Garands and he owed me a few dozen favors so he ordered a pair of them through Canada. Took weeks at $495 per.
