7x47 L

Any here using a 7x47L or got any experience with it?

Never heard of one but I assume it is a 6.5 necked up? Should be a good round similar to a 7mm-08 I would think.

I was thinking it may be a good round considering the inherited accuracy of the '47L parent case, and the ability to run any chosen 7mm bullet at a full length allowing maximum case powder fill capacity, in most short actions (even when using a mag system).
It may be a nice light weight carry stalking rifle with a lot going for it.....

Am all for plying around but Is it going to kill more deer than a 7-08 or even a 308 for that matter?

Hi Bewsher, no, not really but then we would all have a 308 if all you wanted an efficient 'dead is dead'......

I dont think you'd want to shoot anything more than 150gn in a 7x47 would you due to the low MV? In which case, go for the 6.5x47. You can still go up to 140gn (or even 150gn?) with better BC than the same weight 7mm bullets?

Think you might struggle with case volume with 140gr in a 6.5x47 unless the throat has been cut very long.

I reckon it may be a soft shooting round of 130/140gr bullets for stalking.......and will be soft enough for the missus to use.

In terms of a nice rifle for the missus to use, how about a 260 Rem or a 6.5 x 47 Lapua? Regards JCS

The thought was originally to go down the 6.5x47L, and is still an option.
Seeing that there is a 6x47L, a 6.5x47 and 30x47L, I would have thought there would have been a consideration of a 7x47L by now to a greater extent......

6.5 x 47 Lapua seems the fashionable choice at the minute. Good brass, good bullet selection, lots of folk shooting well with it, lots of rifle smiths comfortable with the calibre. If I was starting again, I would probably pick it, but having invested 14 years in the 260 Rem, that's what I'm going to stick with. Getting another one as I type.

As aside, folk have also tried the .22 x 47 Lap and .25 x 47 Lap. If you look hard at any good case, you will find its been necked up and down very quickly.

It would duplicate (or slightly better due to the case capacity) the .280 British of years ago. It should be a handy stalking calibre. If you want the data on the .280 Brit for comparison then call Lou Potter.
