Thanks southern, to start with brass is sellier and bellot although I have a large quantity of rws cineshot too. Powders I have are N140 and BLC-2 but clearly can try and source others. Bullets are 196gr soft nose (I don't know specifically what they are as they are factory loaded S&B rounds I want to pull and reload to see if I can get them grouping better,) primers I have are CCI large rifle.
What kind of rifle is your 8x57IS?

It's a blaser R8......
I have found that the 195-gr Hornady, 196-gr BT, and 200-gr Nosler Partition all are more accurate near a top load ( same as in the lighter bullets ). Groups closed up for me as the charges increased. All my 8x57s and 8x60 have a pretty fast twist. Start about 2 grains below and work up, of course.
I still have a lot of experimenting to do with other powders and bullets, but with these heavier bullets, 44.0 to 45.0 grains of IMR-4064 is accurate, at 2,540+ FPS.
50.0 to 51.0 gr IMR-4350 gives around 2,600 fps from a 23.5 inch barrel, sub MOA with iron sights.
47.5 gr VV N-150 is supposed to give about 2,550 FPS, but I have not tried it.
I suspect N-140 would be like Varget, accurate, but slow with 200-gr bullets, more accurate and faster for the 175 or 180-gr bullets.
I have several modern ( 1930s rifles in 8x57IS) and an older Oberndorf Mauser in 8x60S. These loads are for my 1937 JP Sauer 8x57IS, and the upper loads fine in my 8x60S with its slightly larger case, and in the 8x60S full-stock Mauser carbine with 20.5 inch barrel ( 2,500 fps for 50.0 gr 4350 ). The new owner of this rifle has killed moose, big deer, and big bears with the Nosler NP, all collapsing in their tracks.

The target load my K98 Russian capture seems to like best is CCI LR primer, PPU Brass, 47.6grains of VVN150 and a 200gn Sierra Match King.
