Howdy folks, my name is Devin - I am originally from South Africa and have lived in the beautiful Garden of England (Kent) for a little under 4 years. I come from a long line of hunters and farmers in southern Africa, with my ancestors roaming the wilds of what is now Zimbabwe and Botswana for a quarter of a century before Cecil John Rhodes arrived on the scene, trading ivory and firearms with the now-extinct Kingdom of the Matabele. Nowadays we mostly hunt for the pot and for vermin control. Back home, I am the proud owner of a 1937 Model 70 .300 Winchester Magnum (chambered for H&H rounds), and a 1924 side-by-side 12-gauge with an underslung .303 (manufacturer unknown, but almost certainly German) - these I inherited from my grandfather, who in turn inherited them from his father.
Most of my stalking experience has been in the southern African bushveld where I have hunted impala, zebra, blue wildebeest, duiker, steenbok, and kudu, along with a variety of game birds (mainly Swainson’s francolin, Helmeted guineafowl, and Cape turtle dove). Since moving to the UK, I have been lucky enough to have been invited by good friends to undertake deer stalking three times (taking muntjac, one of which was a gold medal) and to help with vermin control a couple of times. I have thoroughly enjoyed these outings, and am joining this community on recommendation from one of my friends towards getting more involved. I am keen to learn more about stalking in the UK and take advice on firearms and getting my ticket. I don't get much chance to stalk down south anymore, so I am eager to take it up more frequently and earnestly in the UK countryside and wilds. I look forward to being a part of this community, learning from you all, and revelling in the shared stories of exploits!
