Advice please. Electronic ear muffs

I've seen 3m, Peltor & loads of other make electronic ear muffs on Amazon. I was advised to get something artillery rated!
I'm trying to avoid buying something I thought would be good but you guys may know to be rubbish, ineffective or last five mins. Hoping some of you might know of something that far exceeds it's its price or just decent kit for decent money.

Just buy Peltor. They work, they protect your hearing, and you can hear what's going on at the same time.

I've managed to break one pair (my own fault), but went out and bought a replacement set because they are so good for the price.

I know a few people who use them too, everyone who uses them likes them

If you want noise reduction and to be able to hear conversations then you need to look at one’s designed for shooters as they need to shut the rifle sound down before it reaches your ears. Not sure industrial ones will be so fast. But can’t confirm that.
also look at the sound reduction, slim fit will reduce noise by about 26 to 28db and the wide ones by about 34 maybe, I cant remember exactly.
i bought a pair of the wide Pelton ones and have no issue. If your rifle or shotgun fits you correctly then in theory the ear defenders shouldn’t touch the stock.
My only issue is if I pull my hood over my head when wearing then they tend to squeal so I have to switch them off if up the highseat and avoiding the wind/rain/frost.

I can only speak of the Peltors. The very popular SportTac is sufficient for clays or for stalking/shooting. They attenuate by ca. 28db.
For use in a indoor rifle range they are not good enough if there is a chap with a .300WM with a muzzle break around.
Peltor also offer the ProTac, and this in two versions. There is the ProTac Hunter and the ProTac Shooter. The Hunter isn't any better than the SportTac.
But the Shooter version has an attenuation of 32db and my advise would be to get this. It's even cheaper than the SportTac (cannot understand why) which leaves some room for the gel ear pads 👍.

Hmmm. My advice - get the best you can afford, check effectiveness before buying and most important - DO NOT FIRE A SHOT WITHOUT THEM! I am old enough and stupid enough to do just that one week ago - one shot only - still got constant buzzing in both ears and a headache! You have been warned!
Stay safe.

I did see some, they had a mic I didn't need though. Thank you though
I recently bought a pair of peltor from Colonel on here, absolute gent to buy from, the peltors are a cracking piece of kit, the model I bought does not have an external mic that sticks out, if you’re anywhere near kent come and try mine

I have sporttac & protac, both do the job well but find the protactinium a little 'unbalanced' as it uses 2x AA batteries low on one side rather than the sporttac 2x AAA within the shell.

One piece of advice:

Get in touch with Earshot Communications - no direct connection other than been using them for a long time, as they are very competitive on price & their service & knowledge is 2nd to none 👍

I’ve just bought some Peltor Bulls Eye (27db) cheap and cheerful not noise reduction ones though but will be using them with in ear moulds so should be sufficient for the time being and when I have more folding will get higher rated to 32db ones .

Peltor Sportac! I've used Peltor ear protection professionally throughout my working life and they have always been good. Big bonus with Peltor is how cheap and easy it is to replace the foam and cushion seals when things get a bit unhygenic / damaged.

I use Peltor Sporttac for clays and field use, and Protac 2 for the rifle-range (usually with plugs underneath, esp in covered firing-points).
Protac Shooter seem to the current equivalent of the Protac 2.

I bought gel pads for both of them, something I'd certianly recommend.
