After the rain…

Out Saturday with the plan to get to the seat early. Get to the venue and it’s tipping down - joy - forecast says it’s lifting at 8am.

Get to the seat at 6.20am and literally sat curled up like a baby trying to keep my knees dry with my shoulders and hood. Lol previous experience has taught me, water will run off your upper body, but get your knees wet when sitting and it runs down into your boots.

After a good soaking, the rain passed with the light beginning to appear. I could see two fallow coming towards me through the wood over my left shoulder. They drew level at my 9 o’clock at about 60 yards and fearing they would continue on past on the same line further into the wood, I took the shot. No real reaction to the shot using copper, but both ran infront of me where one started it’s head throws and expired. Turns out it was the follower and the mother doe made the mistake of coming back. Ten yards and she dropped.

Having bled, I waited for quad extraction from a mate back in the seat. The sun was now out and things started to move. A fallow pricket came from behind me at speed, not even giving a backward glance. 5 mins later another doe stepped out onto the ride at 80 yards to complete the morning.

Love stalking after the rain.
