Aligning Shotgun Licensing (Case Ref: LB07896)

Who would be fighting? No one fought over lead, no one fought over medical checks, no one fought over the increase of fee's
because i for one had no issues to fight on those ! I was shooting steel years before i had to and dont shoot lead in .243 up , still do 50% small caliber in lead , i was more than happy to have medical checks . fees ? a raindrop in the river ( kind of want to know if i am loosing the plot ) besides it has to be worth the doctors time or none of them would take them on . Tell you if your GP got a Grand a chuck i bet there would be few doctors not doing them ! Not that i wish for that as it happens my doctor takes a small fee and it goes into the annual party .

To stop an uprising:-|
That is the reason firearms licensing was first brought about in the UK. At the end of World War 1 the country was awash with military firearms, the Russian Revolution was in full swing and the Establishment were terrified of the prospect of thousands of trained, battle hardened former soldiers who felt betrayed by the country as there was massive unemployment turning on them.

This is the absolute truth

@Liveonce put a link up to a good paper called something like Slippery Slope of firearms Ownership in UK" from what I can remember, governments in this country have all been afraid of an armed civilian uprising, even to the point of not arming the Home Guard soon enough in the 2nd World War for fear of all the firearms that would be in the hands of the population, they had to in the end, because the war dragged on for much longer than anyone envisaged.
Any chance they get to tighten regulations, they generally take.
I read that paper some years ago. It's quite long but factual, informative and well written. It's here: All the way down the slippery slope Edit to add: I could not download it as a .pdf for some reason but was able to use the print to .pdf function and save it that way.

The Farmers have just partly overturned the "family farm tax". Protesting contacting MP etc, can work the other stragety is apathy, we passed the 100,000 for a debate on aligning SGC with FAC, but that took some effort.
I think the Farmers have proved that the public have got some leverage left over the government

And lets not forget that farmers, the farming community etc form a very large proportion of the shotgun and firearms certificates that are issued.

Also lets not forget that a very large proportion of the rest are held by country folk, but for reasons of work and also availability of housing they don’t reside in the midst of rural England, Scotland or Wales but live in our towns and cities, but are still a cornerstone of most little shoots, deerstalking etc etc.

I don't live in a rural area but shooting has given me access to rural areas, the rural way of life and rural friends. It has been the greatest gift I've ever received.

Albeit it doesnt rely on firearms purely, I enjoy being out with my break barrel air rifles just as much, but I despair of the day when Labour have decimated shooting to such an extent that no other young men and women can use shooting sports as their catalyst to experience the joys of our incredible countryside and the satisfaction of wildlife management.

I've met celebrities, travelled to exotic places, won awards etc - but my proudest achievement is what my friend Brenda, a 88 year old famers wife, told me last year;

"Since you started shooting on our land, I can now hear the song of Curlews and Skylarks, which I haven't heard since I was a young girl"
(Paraphrased)

My proudest achievement, hands down.

I’ve grown up somewhat rural I Scotland and got into shooting through my neighbour. It’s been greatest thing I’ve ever gotten involved in. Clay shooting, deer stalking especially is just hands down incredible. Just because the country life isn’t for everyone doesn’t mean those that enjoy it should be persecuted constantly and I think these firearm law attacks constantly made by government is just an absolute persecution of the rural life. It’s not improving the safety of anything it’s all about decimating gun sports for whatever reason be it votes or in my view, I think I know why they want guns out of public hands but I’ll not say why but I don’t think I’m wrong.
I’ll take being an outdoor country loving redneck any day of the week before becoming a city dwelling Ferrari driving high flyer.
There is nothing that beats the country side, nature and being out in it. I’ll be broke, living rural with the freedom to hunt and raise my own food or hunt it before I’ll take a flat in the city and a Ferrari and a million pound bank account.
Though I’ll take £1 million farm if anyone has one going 😂

Lets hope the NFU and farmers stand up and fight for shooting, because the majority of shooters won't, I may be wrong, but so far the CA seem to be the most vocal about the proposed legislation, nothing in the media from the other groups
