Good morning, I'm in a position to calibrate the Alpex 4K LRF scope on my Tikka 30.06, but since the 100-meter range is closed and only 50 meters are available, and since the scope is equipped with a ballistic calculator, is it possible to zero at 50 meters and then let the CB give me information for longer shots? Something could go wrong, so it would be preferable to wait and find a solution at 100 meters where I can calibrate. The shots I take on wild boar range from 50 to about 200 meters. Yes, you can zero at 50m Best to zero at or near your normal shooting range (if there is such a thing) as either side of that, the accuracy is only as good as the data you have feed into the ballistic calculator. If that's sound, you'll be good to go from a 50m zero but remember the IT adage, "garbage in, garbage out"!

I’d say the same as @wytonpjs - zero at your usual range as 50m is too close really to rely on the ballistic app to get you accurately on target at longer ranges.

I found during my first winter using one to shoot does that there were some significant errors once it got to 200 yards. By comparing its indicated bullet drop at different ranges I was able to work out what I needed to change the MV value to in order get the shot on target. I’ve had no issues with it this last winter.

My advice is, if you can, zero at 100m & then shoot at targets at longer range out in the field to check its giving you the correct adjustment. Then adjust the MV up or down as needed to get you on the target.

Same as Donkey Basher.....Zero at 100m and then tweak the MV/BC to give you consistent hits out to whatever is your max shooting distance.
I will do a zero at 100m and verify at 150m-350m in 50 m increments. I'm not sure what program the onboard ballistic calculator is based on but IMHO it doesn't replicate Strelok or Chaingun, so I just tweaked each variable until it was consistent at the above ranges.

Are you restricted to only zero at an approved range? If your ticket allows to range and zero scope on permissions then I'd use these to zero at the range I wish to shoot. If not then it will be zero at 50 and fine tune on my permissions.

I think the “click” value on those scopes is very near 1cm at 100 yards, so 2 “clicks” should get you from 50 to 100.
Then test in the field.

I would say I principal the 50m woild be ok if you know the ballistic values accurately so the scope can calculate. However as you wnat to go up to 200m and 30.06 has reasonable drop, the accuracy you is on question as yoi scale up the distance 4 times. Considering you talk about live animal, I do not believe it is a fair approach to guess with such missing probability driven by just the tolerance of your zeroing and ballistic calc. I agree with others, set up on 50 if no other option but you must test somewhere before live shoot, even if it means to go 1 day earlier to the driven hunt etc. And test it on the field.
Sorry, but end of the day we are responsible hunters and not target shooter. The game deserve also the painless death.

With glass if you are high and right you adjust the scope left and down...whereas with a lot of digital scopes if you are high and right you adjust the scope reticle to match POI. Probably not very well explained but I think I know what i mean

I would say from experience that if you zero at 50 you could be way off at 100/200 yards etc.

Best to zero at 50 on the range then check at 100/200 when you can.

With glass you adjust so impact is brought to your POA. With digital the opposite is true, you move POA to the impact/group.

You've all been very kind in clarifying my questions. I'm awaiting the reopening of my club's 100-200 meters, even though this will delay my wild boar management efforts on agricultural crops. I agree with and appreciate the note regarding respect for the animal, even when done in pest control situations where numbers are what count.
