Another person “trampled by deer”

I colleague started working in the house of a local estate with Reds on the ground and he had a cottage provided, the boss said give the deer a wide birth especially in the rut, if it makes you late so be it.
Many just don't seem to appreciate wild life is wild and can be dangerous.

I had a situation on Arran when I was the stalker on Sannox Estate. Word was going about that there was a stag with a crossbow bolt in its side.( Poachers) I met the head of the outdoor centre one morning. He asked me if I had seen it yet? You need to come to my house, my wife and kids feed it everyday!. Then came the cracker of a comment. " If you do see it, give me a call and I will get the lads from the centre to hold it while you take the bolt out". Soft Bambi situation again. I did say that we would deal with it ourselves while keeping the 308 out of his sight. Coming home from the hill that day, the stag was just off the track. I drove past it and told my friend , who was stalking that day, that his luck was in. We crept back and he took it through the neck from about 50yds. when we got to it you could smell the infection oozing out of the wound. It was a very big stag , yet the guy from the centre reckoned they would EASILY manage to hold it for us. !!!!!

People in general seem think Bambi was a real deer. i once had to stop and grab a hard horn roe buck simply dazed off a couple who where tending to walking the beast off the dual carriageway still dazed but with an improvised dog lead round its neck- zero control . Fast as i can i secured it correctly holding the stabby bits safe sprinted across the carrigeway and flopped it over the fence.
Thank goodness it wasn't a sika stag eh ?
I have never been charged but a very experienced friend was at at close range and his young GWP stopped it before he got the rifle to his shoulder! Park deer are a bit more dodgy perhaps as they dont have the fear of humans , people have been killed

I had a quad bike written off by a red stag as I was driving and he was already de-antlered. There must be a calculation one could do to work out the momentum of a 300 kilo stag moving at maybe 25 mph.

Nice to see BBC using stock pictures of fallow bucks in velvet.

Still it will soon be Christmas and cards calendars with pictures of Scottish white tail deer.

There was an incident quite a few years ago when some idiot was gored by two stags in Richmond Park
It was alleged that he tried to separate two stags fighting during the rut - it was also alleged that the idiot my have been "chemically altered", easy to believe that given the level of his idiocy
Neither of the stags took kindly to his intervention and he was lucky to survive the absolute thrashing which they both gave him
Two or three years ago some idiot got too close to stags with her dog, a stag which took exception to that trampled a child while making its way over to deal with the dog - dog and owner got a good kicking from the stag and were gored too
A hospital registrar got too close and both she and her bicycle were wrecked by a large stag
Loads of such incidents - and that's just from one deer park

Civvies will never learn, they think the cute deer are tame just cos they're in a park
I even had one idiot argue with me that deer must be harmless because "they're vegetarian, they're herbivores, not predators - so they won't be aggressive" - he said this while two very large park stags knocked seven shades of something out of each other just a short way from we were stood at that time
Like I said, urban civvies can be dumb!

I seem to recall the former chancellor of Germany in the mid 20th Century being a vegetarian; your civvy might not have been aware, of course...
