I did that and though I thoroughly enjoyed it for 18 years, there is a world of difference between doing something for a hobby and doing it professionally.

Oddly I did a week in February every year for years at Cluny. Newtonmore. I loved it. If I could only stalk one thing in one place in the world. That would be it

Aside from the externalities and state of the unused lodges, and the windmills, it’s a lovely if desolate place. Lairds come and go, like the rest of us. It’s the NatureScot lads who want to consign the deer of one of the 6 original Scottish deer forests to the dustbin, not the laird so much. “The valley of nae deer” grace o’ the chumps wi’ nae idea…

The other way of looking at turning a hobby into a job or rather, a way of life is you never have to work again but it paid to do your hobby. I agree that doing deer management on a professional basis is a world away from shooting a few on a recreational basis
