For Sale: Anyone fancy a trip to southern Germany for a Defender 90 Tdi RHD?

Nice vehicle at a reasonable price. Also a 300TDi one of the better engines from LR and easy to work on for the DIYer.

I am only 60kms away if you needed to overnight.
I might even ride back with you.
I bought one in UK for my pal here and drove it from UK to here for him, I was in the UK at the time and he asked me to source one for him.
Ryanair seems to be on offer around the 45€ price from Stansted.

Thanks for the offer but I’m not in the market for a Defender right now. Would be a good buy for someone though.

Could be great could be a money pit. A lot depends on chassis condition. Most of that vintage have either been rechassied or need it.

Great offer from Bavarianbrit 👍

From the pics it looks like it’s had, or perhaps still got, a few issues & had been owned by someone who is more focused on adding bits than looking after it. From the side panels being a different colour they’ve been added because they have windows in, however, they’re not genuine windows so it’s not a station wagon. There are marks on both sides of the grill panel & the bonnet that suggest someone has had to tape the bonnet shut at some point which makes you wonder why? It’s got some LED headlights - would they pass TUV? I doubt they’d pass MOT as no doubt set up for LHD. The chequer plate on the bonnet looks a bit heath robinson so again, got to wonder why it’s there? - at least they haven’t done the sills & tub corners with it. Wheels look tatty & it looks like it’s on some cheap tyres too - spare is a warn out remould for a start. No pics of the interior which also makes me wonder why? Maybe appeal to the weekend ‘pay & play’ hooligans for ragging around an old quarry but having owned 3 Defenders over a period of 30+ years, I’d say it’s going to be a money pit rather than a bargain I’m afraid.

Just twigged, the wheels are actually deep dish so they’ve come off a Discovery - something else that’s been bolted on. Noticed it has cam belt replaced at 79000 miles written in English on the fan cowl so it’s been a UK car at some point?

Its not a bad drive to be honest, I used to drive from paderborn (germany) back home almost every weekend and on annual leave.

Or get a flight over which is pretty cheap and then drive it back

Ever done it in a 30yr old landrover ?!

I did once a 1993 model 90 from Maidstone to the Czech border for my pal. Also collected a 1978 Lightweight with an LDV normal aspirated diesel engine conversion from Sheffield then went to the Solihull factory for a works visit (my job was the Disco dashboard launch in 2003) then I drove it on to Dover and then on to mid Bavaria. OK, never again.

Defenders seem to be popular in the state of Bavaria as a whole and in Munich there are plenty of very nice looking, well kept models, the majority would appear to be used as family vehicles as apposed to working.

That's historical as BMW bought Land Rover and suddenly they were all over Munich for the wanabee BMW workers getting good discounts on them, buy a new one trundle around the alps every weekend and then sell it on to a Munich resident with no loss or a small profit a year or two later.
I was there at the time working on a BMW 4WD SUV that got cancelled after BMW had sucked up all the knowledge out of the Land Rover Solihull archives. Then they came up with the X5.
