I fitted an ARCA rail to my .243 Tikka M55. It was similar to the Area419 but was actually a longer camera rail off EBay for about £12. It took a bit of fettling - I used a couple of t-nuts which cost about 50p and two countersunk bolts off some old Shimano SPD pedals. I drilled and countersunk the rail then installed it on the Anschtuz rail that comes as standard in the Tikka forend. It works brilliantly. You can slide it forward as in the photo or these days I run it slid back under the forend so I can reach the bipod legs to adjust height. If you are handy with a drill then go for it, it works great.

Great work and improvisation, did you have to take the stock off to fit it

Thanks - no I didn't need to take the stock off to fit it as the Tikka comes with an aluminium target shooter style Anschtuz rail factory inlet into the underside of the forend. If you have a wood-stocked Tikka T3 without an Anschtuz rail then you could simply screw the ARCA rail onto the wood using a couple of chunky wood screws. If you want it to look neat and enjoy woodworking then I guess you could chisel/plane a flat area into the underside of the forend to form a nice level place for the ARCA rail to locate. If you switch your T3 to an aluminium chassis then an ARCA rail should bolt straight onto the M-loc type slots on the underside of the forend.

My tikka is synthetic how would that work

It depends on the shape of the moulding in the forend area. If it has a simple flat forend and decently thick plastic then you can just attach an ARCA rail with a couple of nuts and bolts through two holes drilled in the plastic. If the forend has a Schnabel shape then it may not be possible as the ARCA rail will not sit flat on the underside of the forend.

There is a flat 4" section in front of the mag well but according to brownells it might not be compatible, black rifle do a 4" rail that bolts to most stocks think ill just go with that

I went with the black rifle rail in the end very easy to install and amazing customer service cant fault them
