Just out of interest
those of you that have RFD, Sporting businesses

Who do you bank with?

I ask as I am setting one up and had an application knocked back due to the bank "not currently servicing the sector you are working in"

That I am afraid is a disgrace
This is not exactly testing makeup on puppies!

I think there's a few that won't "service" shooting type businesses. If you have your current account with them, I'd move.

apparently Handlesbanken want £20-30 a month for account fees!

am on it but between the banks not wanting to work in the industry and the suppliers making it as difficult as possible to get accounts and then their goods to sell it strikes me as an industry ripe for a shake up!

Is it just accessories you are looking to trade or firearms as well?

The Lothian & Borders Rifle Club use Bank of Scotland but as a club it may be treated differently than a business.

Calum

i was invited to go and sit with Handelsbanken. i couldn't work out why i would want to shift across to them. their interest rate on savings was worse than the halifax's standard rate.

Bank of Scotland are OK with it, I moved from RBS twenty years ago because they were not,may have been a lot to do with the branch manager though.

Everything

Lots of them can be a bit windy when you are selling 'guns'....we have even had them get scared at us selling knives!

In the past we have banked with Co-Op (really!, just told them we sold sports goods!), but they were a bit crap....

Now with HSBC and no complaints so far, although they did ask lots of questions when we opened the account for the Ltd Co.

I believe at one time BASC were able to help out with business accounts with those in the trade by recommending 'friendly' banks.

Surely this smacks of discrimination. I would speak to my MP - if you are doing nothing illegal, they should have no grounds to refuse you. They would get short shrift if they refused you based on gender or race - why refuse in business type?

sadly in the days of investor relations "ethical banking" covers all things that may be legal but not "ethical"

They won't bank with animal testing companies, known polluters, pornographers, companies known to use child labour or have poor work conditions in sweat shops (unless you are the size of Nike or Gap obviously!)

sadly I named the limited company such that I can't really pretend to be selling fishing rods!

Handelsbanken actually want £50 a month.....
