Barbecue Rub

We'll be barbecuing a sika tenderloin tonight. Any suggestions for a rub would be welcome. I've always used a commercially produced braai rob before, but would like to make my own. I'm thinking of black pepper, rock salt but not sure about the other ingredients.

The best rubs are the simple ones, youre not going to go wrong with salt & pepper and then another one seasoning of your choosing.

Something classic like rosemary (which you can chop finely and bash into the salt, thyme or sage.

One of my favourites for BBQ venison is salt, pepper, garlic powder, and rubbed sage ground together in a mortar and pestle :thumb:

Salt/ Garlic/ Rosemary (fresh/frozen better flavour) works well.
Or if you like a Smokey bbq flavour chilli/ smoked paprika/ garlic/ onion/ bell pepper - oven roasted or preserved/ brown sugar

Not a rub but I make a marinade that goes down well to the point I never seem to get any.

1/2 cup runny honey
1/3 good quality dark soy sauce
Splash of red wine vinegar
2cm fresh grated ginger
1-2 cloves of garlic crushed
A slack handful of seasame seeds

Put in a Tupperware box and marinade for 4+ hours giving it a good shake ever so often.
