Watching this thread with interest as I'm looking to get a 3006 to load up with copper bullet rounds, I was thinking of going to go 130 bullet an 10 twist. So interesting your looking to perhaps do 8 twist.

Having tried the 130 Grain and 150 grain out of a .300 WSM I am managing to stabilise them out of a 1-11 (130 at 3658FPS, 150 TTSX at 3418FPS and 150 TSX at 3124FPS) and in my .308 I can stabilise the 130 with 1-10 (3050 FPS).
I don't think there would be much merit going faster twist than a 1-10 as that should stabilise up to a 200 Grain LRX (they recommend 1-10 or faster) which is getting to the weight where the .30-06 will struggle to push it fast enough.

The time I would look at a 1-8 would be for a .300 Norma Mag. where a 212 Borerider LRX would be a possible choice.

Just my opinion,

Ben

I’m currently shooting a 20” 1-10 shooting the 168gr TTSX at 2840fps and they perform amazing so might just got to a 1 - 9 to cover my options Iv had it on steel at 800 and deer out to 400 so it’s more than good enough for any stalking/shooting I’ll ever do

Will you stick at 20in or go to 22?

How do you get that MV out of a 20” barrel with 168s I’d love to get mine moving that fast
