Barnes TTSX in .243 for Roe

Hi all,

I am looking to start reloading for a couple of reasons, the pursuit of a more consistent cartridge & to make the move away from lead. From what I have read so far the Barnes TTSX in 80gr .243 gets good reviews but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with this bullet on Roe deer?

I have my eye on the Lee 60th Anniversary Kit from Henry Krank and I'm heading down to the BASC gamefair at the end of the week and I'm planning on picking up a few things to begin my reloading journey. I already have a decent calliper & picked up a rock tumbler to clean my brass as I don't expect to be mass loading.

If anyone has any advice they would like to offer I would be grateful

Thanks, D

Thanks, I know the Lee kit comes with a manual & I was considering the Barnes book as well but I'll be sure to add it to my list. Plenty of reading to get through before I start but I'm in no hurry to begin

Go easy on the tumbler if you wet tumble with stainless steel pins 20mins or so otherwise you may damage the brass neck edges

Hi davros, i changed over to ttsx 80gr in 243 last year. I can honestly say I haven't had any problems at all with them. They grouped well out of my rifle and performed well on fallow does with most dropping on the spot and the farthest a shot one ran was 20 yds. Roe does and bucks again same result nothing running very far, minimal damage as well. I think that the ttsx in 243 is a very good combination.

I worked up some 80gr Barnes TTSX loads for my .243 Sako 75 last year but was disappointed with the speeds I was getting which made it barely deer legal. Changed to my alternate powder normally used for my .308 and now comfortably in excess of the minimum legal muzzle energy. Downside I would say is that I saw greater meat damage and runners than I saw previously using Nosler Ballistic tips. I have now amended my POI to the HILAR position with better results and candidly, having shot all 6 UK deer species with my .308 over the last 5 years, I've fallen back in love with my 75 and its my go to for Roe and Muntjac with the TTSX.
