Bees

A bit far for me but in any case my 1 bee hive swarmed the other day so now ive got 2 colonies of bees as i collected the swarm from a neighbours garden.

🤣. Yep same here 3 last week first one went 5 mins before I got there #2 flew off as I got there #3 I went and had a look got me gear walked back and bugger if they didn’t lift of as well 🤣🤣 mans gotta know his limitations 😋

I was perhaps a bit too quick with my swarm as didnt give them much time to settle.
They didnt take kindly to being shaken into the cardboard box from the bush they were in.
I waited till dusk but accidentally nudged the box which was upside down on a sheet. The bees which had been nicely all in came puthering out.
Not a textbook swarm capture, i have done better!
They appear to be in the new hive, its a case of waiting to see the normal signs of a functioning colony.

That's a cast swarm rather then a prime so not many bees. The big prime swarms as always good ones to take as its the queen + 50% of the colony (15-20,000 odd bees). Little cast swarms like the one pictured may only have a couple of thousand bees and the queen is not necessarily mated so they can often fail.

Lol...Sure you will get lucky at some point.

Are hives just like swarming no matter what we do ...think some requeening may be in order as its frustrating so a change in genetics may help...though probably not. We have had hives with BIAS on 3 to 4 frames and loads of space...and they still swarm...little sods. Off to take some honey off this evening so at least there is some reward :)
