Bergara HMR Factory Stock or Upgrade

I've just bought a nearly new HMR Pro in 6.5CM, the plan is stalking and some longer range target stuff, alongside a lightweight stalking setup. I was planning a Tikka CTR or Supervarmint and new stock, but found this and liked the feel of it. Have done a quick zero off sticks and was impressed. My plan was to give it a go then upgrade to PSE, Grayboe, KRG or whatever, but probably not a full-on chassis. However I like the feel of the factory stock....but haven't shot the alternatives, that don't look that different. With Tikka it was an easy - "drop it in an aftermarket" but does anyone have experience of aftermarket vs. factory HMR on Bergara please?

Probably not a massive help but when I'm looking for a stock i want something adjustable i can make fit me and something with a good bedding area or bedding block. Whilst I've toyed with replacing my wilderness terrain stock, there's really no point because it wont achieve anything except throw money away 😂

Does it fit? Is it comfy? Does it do what you want? If yes, leave it alone. Unless of course you really like the look of something because thats all it will be down to, looks. Maybe a couple of grams in weight

That is helpful - just wondered if I was missing something and/or why Tikka stocks are viewed as something to upgrade when Bergara seem to get it right!

The higher end tikka gets it right, just the bog standard ones don't. Same goes for the bergara and probably every other manufacturer. Buy a 'higher' end model, get better kit on it. Buy a bog standard howa and you need to replace the stock. Buy a higher end model and you've got the good stock. Browning are the worst for it, either Buy their cheap model with a crap stock or pay thousands for their factory rifle with a good stock...

If you like the feel of it and it's accurate then leave it as it is. They are solid stocks.
I also have a HMR. All I have done to mine is saw off a bit of the cheek piece so that I can leave it raised and remove the bolt. I also zip tied a thin foam sheet over the cheek piece for comfort.
I bought a second hand GRS stock for my standard bergara BA 14 and that was worth it. It did require a little bit of dremel work to get it to fit.

I have a B14 HMR, I really like the stock. I believe that they are a mini chassis design and if you were to change it would be more like a sideways movement than an immediate improvement. I have zero complaints other than it is heavy. But it's solid and good for range use which ticks my box.

The only gripe I have is the cheek rest has to be removed or lowered to remove the bolt. I need to 3D print a stopper piece so that it can be returned to the same height each time.

I think you have confirmed my thinking, thank you. The aftermarket stocks are a sideways move. I love that you are printing a 3D stopper...I was going to use black permanent marker!

As you probably know it’s the same footprint as the Rem700 so, aftermarket options are endless.

I have an HMR, for the range use I do it is more than good enough. If you like yours, other than altering weight is there any point in changing?

Another club member insists I need to change the stock on mine, but it’s shoots sub moa at 1000 yards and I find it comfortable so really can’t see the point.

The only way you will really know if an alternative will work is if you try one in the flesh.
