Best all terrain tyres

As much as I love it, due to labour’s BIK changes my 20 plate Amarok aventura is getting changed for a new Amarok (Ranger in wolf’s clothing) at the start of March.

As the new V6 is not quite as sporty, and will be driven accordingly, plus having nearly got stuck on a rough shoot before Christmas I’m looking at putting a set of all terrain tyres on the new one when it arrives.

I do a fair amount of miles on tarmac for work, including towing a plant trailer on occasion, plus stalking on the weekends, never any heavy off roading.

What do the good folk of SD received recommend?

Fwiw.
I have these on my Grand Cherokee. Found them to be excellent. Bit pricey, but Michelin make quality tyres.

They call them a 'summer tyre' but they have M+S rating and i have found them great in snow.

BFG AT2 are good but they have a habit of running of on the front even when the you have the steering enlightenment and all bushings are fine and at £220 a tyre it a bit much and this i have seen on 3 different jeeps

BFG KO2 AT.

Not cheap but are good for serious mileage as well as great performance off road. I paid £222 for each tyre but other who have them have done 40k miles and still have some life in them

Got BFG KO2 AT on the Disco & they punch well above their weight.

Friends boss has Falken Wildpeak AT3 on a Disco Sport & has no trouble getting around his farm & shoot with them.

Got Michelin Latitude Cross on the other half’s FL2 & had them on a previous D2 & they’re excellent on road, last for many thousands of miles but are limited off road.

Perhaps invest in a spare set of wheels & have a summer set of tyres on larger diameter rims & a winter set on smaller diameter rims so you can get a taller sidewall for flex & airing down if you need to off road?

We have Cooper AT3, Toyo Open Country AT and BFG AT’s on pickups and honesty I don’t think there’s a great deal to choose between them - pick the price you like and go for that - Toyo are about £150 and BFG are about £270, Cooper are in between

Another vote for Cooper Discoverer AT3’s a more road biased tyre but they have not let me down in some boggy situations!

Gixer
