Binoculars advice please

Hi. Looking for a small pair of decent binos for my daughter. She is going up to Scotland for a couple of weeks and would like a good pair for bird watching etc, not stalking. Budget around £200. Like the sound of the vortex diamondbacks 8x25, seem to get great reviews. Or spend it on a older pair of Lecia 8x25. They are going to fairly old but if they are tidy maybe a better buy? Will the glass be superior in the lecia’s?
Thanks
With the march of technology what was "superior glass" twenty years ago may not be regarded as that today. Just a thought.

Yes it probably isn't. However I bought a pair of Leica Geovid in 2007 and a new set of HD-B (?) a couple of years ago. Is the glass better in the newer stuff? Yes but not hugely. I sold the new ones a few weeks back and kept the older ones. The glass is still miles better than binos that are not from the top marks ie Swaro etc.

You get what you pay for in optics. So an older set of top flight binos would be a better buy in my book

Having had a pair of binoculars in my hand almost since birth given my parents deep interest in natural history and my subsequent stalking passon, I would recommend a good but not an overly priced pair of 8x32's. A sensible balance of magnification and light transfere.
I have just inherited my late farthers 8x32 Leica's (not cheep) that are just about perfect to carry about as were my first good pair of Optolith 8x32's.
