Black roebuck

Prior has pictures of a black roe doe in one of his books that was shot in England and talks about seeing one himself in Scotland. Not sure if a black buck has been seen/grasses in more recent times. Got to be as rare as hens teeth, but never say never where roe are concerned!

I had a black roe doe coming onto my ground last year but no sign this year! I thought it was the farmers Labrador when I saw it lying down in a grass field

I shot a Black Roe Buck as it has broken leg near Bury St-Edmonds 8 years ago. There was also a Black Doe that I NEVER shot nor would I unless it to was injured I believe MS off here now stalks the land perhaps he could comment if he has seen any

I shot a very dark roe which i thought was black it was more thunder gray but was in summer coat and hard antler sadly can't find the bloody picture.

There is a young black buck on one of my bits of ground.
Saw him 3 weeks ago for the first time.
Have not seen black doe or buck before so no idea where he came from.
He is safe from me on my ground.

Was visiting a roman ruin close me last week with my daughter and we both sat in the car park and spied several Black Roe Deer through the old binos, we counted 4 in a group of 9.

Most likely !
I have been shooting and observing Roe on excellent areas for over 50 years and have never seen a black one.
There was a youngster with its mother on one area that had a broad black stripe along its back.
The pheasant syndicate brought in a private pack of hounds to hunt the Foxes and after that date I never saw the little one again.
White are also rare and as these mutations are recessive or sex-linked they will only appear when close relatives carrying those genes have mated.

Only seen black roe in germany when stalking with my son, but I did see a white roe few years ago in Scotland, made the news papers and radio, saw it 3 times on separate visits. Google Dave Bartle white roe got lots of pics and a video which was shown on field sports channel.Odd looking beast, cross between a lama, sheep and a cuddly toy, as it ran off it looked like a calf's back end.Happy hunting
