Looking for any info re:the above sharpeners, for a tenner are they worth a punt or are they just a quick stop gap.
look forward to all your replys
cheers
as above....keep one on my car keys as a back up for a mora or cheaper knifes.....excellent for the quick touch up jobs.
what do you get for a tenner these days?
find mine handy
paul
I would only use one on cheap throw away knives or as above larder knives. Take a close look at the blade after you use one...they tear the metal! I do prefer ceramic cross stick sharpeners or lansky for thorough job.
Have one in my jacket very handy, best quick is a dual one, tungsten carbide one end ceramic sticks other, keep in car cost£5 lots of copies arrround, got mine from Norman Clarke, have another identical but grey plastic not yellow.
would only and do use one on my mora knifes blades as they rip metal away like a cheese cutter but give a working edge back fast.and the good part is after some time use'g one , you get a free fish knife
If you apply too much pressure with these, they will make your knife look serrated due to all the metal they take off however if you use long light strokes, it's fine and sharp.
They do make a knife reasonably sharp but the amount of steel they remove to do this is more than I would like, hence my comment about them being "sore" on a blade
I carry one all the time certainly sharpen a knife, would not use one on an expensive knife because as others have said they remove a lot of metal, but I don't buy expensive knifes anymore, as I am lucky if I manage to go a season without loosing one, so they work for me.
So much of my knife work is done with my opinel now after having lost and damaged expensive knives so as they are a sub £10 knife i use a blade tech, yes its rips the metal and takes lots off but for this application it doesnt matter, it makes the knife sharpe and the knife is still fine 3 years on and ironically i havent lost it yet. I coant for love nor money sarpen on anything where i have to hold the angle etc. i have a lansky system but dont carry it in the field.
