We had another glorious day on the shoot. I am utterly spent. I shot a few crackers that will live long in the memory but the birthday boy set us a blind retrieve on a runner. That was lovely to solve at the end of a productive drive.
I had shot and retrieved a few fantastic driven birds and a wet squirrel on a very good drive. At the end my pal said he’d dropped a runner and asked me to look. He had marked the spot and set me off. As soon as the bitch hit his mark she was off like a rocket, then into the woods. I really didn’t fancy a long walk away from the line as I was already spent. She pushed under the fence through a decent bit of cover, 50m of thick bramble, and came back with the bird slowly. She couldn’t see but refused to set down the bird and followed my voice. Eventually walking into a stock wire fence. It was very literally a blind retrieve.
