It's such a shame as Zim has everything to my mind
The reason that there is an arms embargo on Zimbabwe, is thanks to the Zim government. They are very closely aligned to China and North Korea, commit regular atrocities on its own people and have completely buggered the economy.

You only need to go to Botswana, Namibia or Zambia to see how a modern African country can actually work. In Zim, most rural peoples are on a below subsistence level, in the towns and cities, not much better. And if you don’t like the situation and speak out you will end up digging for diamonds in Chinese owned diamond mines.

And the really sad thing, if Mrs Thatcher hadn’t been in such a rush to get the “Rhodesian Problem” off her desk the result would have been very very different. Most of the people didn’t want Mugabe et al taking over. They wanted a stable transitional government that was in place. But Mugabe’s thugs offered the people one vote one time, or continued violence. When he got into power his 5th Brigade (North Korean trained) went into Matabeleland and invited 30,000 plus to go into their huts, which were then set alight, or throw themselves down mine shafts.

And the current president Managwa was in charge of the above operation.

For those of us who love that part of the world it really is rather sad. Especially as nobody in the west seems worried about it.

Thanks for the info.

I have actually got pre arranged permits both this year and last with just a couple of days notice. The price was 150 USD per person. I used Adele both times.

This year Border Force almost did not let us export the rifles because we had not asked them for export letters. I knew we didn’t need them because we had permits waiting for us in Joburg. There was a big argument about it, but they let us go in the end.

Can you please clarify what the problem will be with Zim? How could some wording on the FAC prevent someone taking a rifle to Zim if they wanted to?

Thanks
Have you got contact details for Adele ?

including the statue of the dog himself.

Hard to believe that the statue is still extant.

On Monday, I attempted to apply for my export permit to go to SA in February ‘26 and had the below in response:

“Thank you for your email regarding a temporary export of a firearm to South Africa.

As of 30th July 2025, there has been a change in policy and Border Force are no longer issuing these letters to passengers who are visiting South Africa.

The South African authorities are aware of this change and will no longer be asking to see them.

You will still need to liaise with your airline regarding the collection and securing of your firearms upon arriving at and departing from the airport(s) you fly from and bring your firearms certificate with you when you travel.”

So has anyone returned from a trip recently who can verify Border Force’s statement?

Thank you for contacting Border Force.

I went last month. The airport police in Johannesburg denied all knowledge. Our PH slipped them 300 rand and everything was miraculously sorted.
