I

Iv just bought a tikka t3x super varmint in 223, i never even thought to check the twist rate as i thought they were all 1:8 as my last one was, turns out this is pre 2022 when they changed to the roughtech green ones,
i used to shoot 55gr and 69gr with my other very well, will i still be able to shoot the 69gr with the slower twist, its a 20" barrel,

thanks.

Lee

FFS, do i take it back and wait another 4 week for my variation, or hope it shoots 55gr ok, i can manage not using the 69gr if needs be,

You’ll be fine with the 55grn but it may really struggle with the 69grn.

If you can take it back then I would and go through the hassle of the 1 for 1 variation. It will eat away at you if you don’t and you’ll only end up selling at a loss.

I’ve got a Tikka T3X with a 1:8 twist and it loves 60grn and 70 grn

If it's only for foxes and 69gr isn't a deal breaker 55gr will be fine. My own T3x 1:12 will shoot factory 55gr Varmint Express under an inch at 100m. Foxes 250-300 not a problem.

If it's an option to take back the 12 twist then personally I would
You never know when you fancy a plinking session out further to use those 69gr TMKs.

Only you can decide if you are happy with the 12 twist. Are you?

You'll be fine with that. I only use 50grn in my 22250 in a 1 in 14. It's spot on. It'll do a 60grm soft point fine enough too.
It'll do 50grn copper also. So you won't be handicapped at all. Unless your only wanting to shoot up to and beyond 600 all the time then it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Are you serious?
I shoot foxes further than that with lighter bullets in a smaller case and a 1:14" twist.

Wasn't the 60 plus gn weight bullets for shooting armour beyond 600yards?
Or in our case Roe deer. Or down south CWD and Muntjac.

I'll chip in... if you have purchased a brand new rifle you're nuts not getting an 8 twist, a 12 for 1/3rd the price and you would live with it.
I bought an 8 twist and 60grn Vmax home loads smash those redskins handsomely. I'm also future proofed for copper.
