Looking at buying brass cleaner. Would anyone who knows reccomend wet tumbler or ultrasonic. Many thanks
But it is pleasing to the eye.Really depends how shiny you like your brass . If like me you only clean them to keep the crud out of your dies and to enable case inspection , go ultrasonic and use a Lee decapping die to removeprimers beforehand .
There's no benefit to shiny brass .
I think the primer pockets would be clean after 2 hours in an ultrasonic cleaner, especially if the cases went in as soon as they were decapped.Got all three types, the ultrasound was good and quick, if you heat the bath to 70C, it doesn't take long to get really shiny cases, with a tiny bit of citric acid, but I never got the primer pockets really clean. Switched to a cheepo Vevor tumbler with hot water and the same half teaspoon of citric acid and a two-hour tumble in steel pins, got the primer pockets really clean then use a corncob media tumbler at the end to get them really shiny.
I know you should never read the manual but mine says the max runtime is 1 hr. I only ran it for 30 minutes max as after that the cases went dull, probably due to the combination of citric acid and temperature, but nope, never got the primer pockets as clean as wet tumbling does. It's certainly clean enough after ultrasound but not as clean as after wet tumbling and I pride myself on having the shiniest brass in the village, including the parts that you cannot see. I'm not arguing that it has no effect on accuracy but reloading is a hobby in itself for me, so I like to spend the extra time on it.I think the primer pockets would be clean after 2 hours in an ultrasonic cleaner, especially if the cases went in as soon as they were decapped.
