8 pieces cut from two sleepers. Each piece is 20 inches long.

An anvil face should be the same height as the knuckles on your closed fist is from the floor, when you arm is by your side and you are stood up straight.

Just guessing, but I'm 6' 8" and 14 stone when I leave off the cream Scones, but Wimbledon is coming soon, so I've started early

I will sit it on a bed of silicone to act as a bit of a sound damper, then I’ll chain it to the block.

Has yours got holes at the bottom for chaining down , mine doesn’t but I’ll think of some way to hold it .

I bet you every Plastering buisness van that drives past you walking the guys must double take and comment “ now he would be handy for ceilings “ .I had a young fella a month ago filling and taping a ceiling and he could do it without a step up .

No need for stilts mate , unless they are high ceilings ...

Don’t worry about holes, loop the chain over the feet.

Great, but cutting 2.4m sleepers in half would put my anvil at tit height for you! Probably a bit high to wield a hammer well.

Shelton bar....I remember delivering and collecting from there as a young 20 year old and a Leyland terrier 7.5 ton truck.

I also remember it being shut and radio Stoke had an all day schedule on it on the day it closed.
A very sad day if you ask me.

My Anvils go onto/into a big steel plate fabricated Pyramid with the peak missing and they sit on a lager plate ( under that is a lot of sand ) . I have two Anvils , but i really only use one one now because I don't really take on any blacksmithing work now . I also have three leg vices two are in use in the workshop , one has been in an outbuilding waiting a full restoration ( its been waiting maybe 5-6 years now LOL )

I have set about my anvil and leg vice with a wire brush to give them a clean up.

I moved this on last year,it is in good working condition. Note socket/hole for leg vise..perfect for your shed!

Cleaned the anvil up, given it a coat of rust kill and a wipe with some boiled linseed oil. Freshly mounted on a new oak stand.

It’s BBQ weather here, so the anvil has had a test run on the new stand and I’ve forged a steak flipper from 18” of 1/2”x1/2” square.

A nice touch is to do a water twist in square bar . to red twist one way a few inches quench then, twist the end other way three inch
