But look at the effing rifle ffs.
I`m sure the SD has a few that do the same with their deer rifles ha ha

Here are some photos of Butch Fjoser’s record group shot on June 7th, 2025 at Charlene’s Meadow.
The official measurement was .445 (10-shot 300yd group in the unlimited class), beating the previous record of .512 by Larry Costa.
Butch was using a RFD rail with a Bat 3L top loader and a Krieger 13.5 twist in 6ppc.
The load was 30.1gr of N133, using old Euber 66gr moly bullets, federal 205 primers and Lapua brass.
Congratulations on your record Butch!

Going to that extreme to shot imitation bug holes seems borderline insanity.
At some point it becomes machinery skills over any shooting skill.
Not every itch should be scratched but it beats TV I guess....
As a lot of 'up north/outwest' night shooting is done from ute backs over the cabin I suggest a suitable platform bolted to the ute roof and the rifle clipped onto that for those long shots at night.

When we shot off the roof of a ute John normal rigs worked just fine so I'm guessing a standard heavy barreled rifle, fine trigger and a couple of bags will cut it for the longer shots. We kinda maxed out at 300 at night when we were younger off the Toyota's.

Went to a bench rest match in Arizona, there were many of these 'rail guns' there.

Some amazing engineering, and some of the set ups weighed dozens of lbs.
It was interesting to note that many or the guns had two scopes, one to sight the fall of shot into the target before the match, and the other to the side to watch wind flags during the match.
The shooter rarely looked through the scope on the receiver, preferring to shoot when the flags were exactly aligned the same as when the rifle was zeroed onto target. When that happened they shot very fast until the flags moved, not wasting time looking through the rifle scope.

An interesting idea but not for me.
