Buying goods on the SD

Could anyone shed any light as to where I stand with a matter I have been faced with?

I bought a rifle that was advertised on the classifieds section of this site - after paying in full and speaking to the seller I have had zero response to the postage/collection of my rifle.

Myself and admin of the site have tried to contact him on several occasions and we’ve have no reply even though he has been online several times.

I hope he is well and that no unfortunate circumstances have occurred resulting in his inability to reply to my messages - but I presume this is not the case as I have already mentioned he has been online multiple times.

I would like to note that this rifle was paid for in full back in August of last year and was discussed he would keep ahold of the rifle until my variation came through.

This is a last ditch attempt to resolve a situation and the decision to post this on a public forum has not been taken lightly.

I’m not quite sure on the legality of the situation and what my next steps should be.

Thank you in advance
Tom

I had this with a scope on Guntrader… got told by the police that because I handed over the funds willingly there was nothing they could do.
Same scope was advertised on here by a chap from the same area , same pictures and same name……and the same issues I faced according to the post.

I do hope you get your money back though mate.

Hmm. Presumably you have a receipt from him which certainly in NI you would have needed to apply for the variation? If so and you now have that rifle on your FAC then surely it has to come off his making it illegal for him to possess and thus of interest to the police?
All that said I know your system differs from NI’s where you have “slots” so this may not apply…..
I do hope you get it sorted - don’t like to think that someone on SD is double-dealing a fellow member but please do be careful about broadcasting his name just yet - there may just be a good reason…

Presumably you had a copy of their license as part of the negotiation?

I would -

Write by recorded delivery giving 7 days for them to return funds, then if no resolution:

Notify police (only to get a crime reference number, they won’t leap into action as sadly worse things than this happen, however the above is not correct, just a excuse)

Contact your legal expenses helpline through your home insurance

Contact citizens advice

Name and shame here to avoid it happening to anyone else

Contact their licensing department as they are not a person of good character

Bring a small claims action against them

Pop round and see then to discuss your greivance

Or all of the above…

There are some ridiculous adverts on GT that look like scams… seems they don’t care

Have you considered he may be dead?
If he is still logged in to SD, if a family member uses the device it will show as online?

Just a thought.

either he is a crook or something has gone wrong. call him out on here, if hes been ill or is dead im sure some one will know of him and tell you. if hes a crook what have you got to loose?
all else fails id report him to the fld, assuming he actually has a license and hasnt properly scammed you

Does the rifle actually exist? Contacting FLDs isn’t going to get you very far if he is just a scammer that logs in to SD now and then to bolster the apparent legitimacy of his membership.

Six months have passed, I would name him on the off chance that someone on here knows him personally, if he is legit then a quick apology would be all that was needed.

You surely you have his full name address and FAC detail's.
If not why not?
May require a visit in person. Still if no joy an email to the relevant Firarms department.
