Hi just looking for clarification parse , I've fitted my cabinet and ammo safe and waiting for inspection by feo however I've been told by a lady at firearns licencing that I can't get my rifle till its been inspected ?? Is this true? It doesn't seen right

B that same token when I had my sgc before I moved abroad I had the cabinet fitted avd 2 guns in it for 2 months before it was inspected and that was fine then??

If your fac is all in order then the seller of the rifle can legally transfer your rifle to you.
However, as per david1976 above, if your feo finds a rifle in the cabinet Before he has checked that it can't be ripped off the wall etc. then he isn't going to be happy.

Im presuming this is your first firearm certificate ??
If so how do you expect to purchase a firearm without a certificate.

When did I mention not having an fac?? I said my cabinet had not been inspected yet .... And no not my first just my first since I came back from abroad

i put a post up a while back with the same kind of situation this is what the fac accompanying letter said,

Prior to acquiring any firearms you must have a gun cabinet installed at your home address- please
contact (**********) at (***********) once you have installed one and they will arrange for an inspection to be carried out.
you MUST NOT ACQUIRE any weapons until you have suitable security in place.

after a bit of advice from the forum i contacted the local office and the officer did say as long as there is adequate security installed and i am happy with the installation then i could purchase a firearm.
i appreciate all areas have a different view on this matter

cant do no harm to contact them for clarification though,

chris

so did you get issued with a fac ( in your hand) prior to having a cabinet, or have you moved house.

i did have a cabinet installed once the fac had arrived, but at the time of the home visit i didn't because i wanted the officers views on location of the cabinet.

It was issued prior to having a cabinet as due to injury I've been unable to get to pick it up till this week

My main bug bear about them saying I can't have my firearms till cabinet inspection Is this - this situation is no different to somebody mOving home and installing cabinet with firearms in then waiting for inspection , in that situation does the fac holder have his firearms illegally ??

It sounds to me like the Firearms Team have helped you out due to your injury and issued your FAC early.
Sorry if I have this wrong.
Sounds like you just need to be a little patient!

To be fair to them they were great but they did say I didn't need a cabinet to get fac just needed installing before I purchaesd any firearms , just seems odd that some flds say one thing and some say another ....

I did exactly that and got a ticking off from my feo. Not sure about the legal situation.
In retrospect, I think he was right. Who's to know if the cabinet has been Properly installed the second time even if it was the first.
It's also a courtesy to the feo, his job could be on the line if a cabinet goes "missing" with firearms inside.

i am not sure of the legal situation of them requiring an inspection at all!
I can tell you a big reason is to log its location for the ARU when they come to take them away!

Chapter 19
at no point does it dictate that an inspection is required.
Security of our firearms is our responsibility, failure to do so is on our heads, enforcement of it is not something the HO Guidance indicates or requries

When I had my certs before I moved house twice and had waited a while before inspection and never had any problem , I wonder what the alternative is to fac holders if the police picked up on this ? Would be a pain to have tostore your firearms with a FLD every time you move

I've moved house 3times with Northumbria police and moved my cabinet and guns then got them to inspect it you don't expect everyone to put guns in storage so they can inspect your cabinets never had a problem
Tom

Exactly , this is my point the situation I'm in is no different to somebody who has moved house ! It seems really odd....
