Are there any reloaders out there who use a Merkel Helix and reloading .243 and/or .308 cal ammo..?

I could really use a bit of advice on CBTO measuring..

Thanks in advance.

It has been a little while since I used to own a Helix - mine was a 6.5x55 so not a direct comparison. Experience was to load only to factory lengths; anything else struggled to cycle.

Take the barrel off and measure it that way with a comparitor.

Though have a feeling they won't like long seated bullets because of the way they work

Any straight pull hunting rifle really needs a case to full length resized making sure the resizing die makes full contact with the case holder on the ram.

Indeed I would suggest any hunting rifle needs cases full length resized to ensure reliable feeding.

After you have loaded up a batch of ammo, its well worth running them through the magazine and chamber to check they feed well. Any that don’t use for practice.

In my experience, most straight pulls need to be operated with a degree of vigour and speed to feed reliably.
