This knife set belonged to a distant relative who was a Head Forester in the Bregenz Forest, Austrian/Czech border region in the 1930-40's.
The picturesindicate this was either a butchery & skinning set or a stalker's gralloching set (or both?) capable of dealing with anything from roe upwards.
The blade is stamped P.REIS and the scabbard is wood, covered in leather, antler handles with metal adornment to the scabbard - and a belt pin to hold it securely in place.
It's completely untouched since it was last used in the early 1940's and a beautiful thing, with undoubtedly a lot of history - but it can't speak!
It's not for sale but can anyone shed any more historical light onto it?
