CBD oil to stop dog whining on peg?

Anybody have any experience of this? For a 4 year old cocker spaniel on driven shoots. Not looking for general advice on whining on the peg please- very familiar with that and the CBD idea is a last resort before retiring this dog from peg work. Thanks.

Cockers are not natural peg dogs and if it's been hunting and shot over you are asking alot of it to sit quietly on a peg, cbd won't change a thing
Yes, that’s right. I’ll let you know! Have you any experience with CBD and gundogs?

Yes but not for the purpose you are after, was used to help with old lurchers joints (pardon the pun) seemed to help her a bit.

LIke a lot of these "remedies" most don't work, others may have an action, but as you do not know precisely why the dog is whining, it's a guess. CBD is given credit for a lot of things, just like any clever marketing.
Giving it might have an effect though, because if you think it works, you will probably relax and the dog will be less anxious. Possibly.
An Adaptil collar, if it is anxiety, is a better bet. But is suspect it's just too exciting for the little dog!

I know exactly why she does it (albeit she doesn’t, which is part of the problem). It’s pure adrenalin and excitement, not the same as being anxious (but CBD may counter in a similar way). She wants to be working, and can’t wait to do so. As is well known, cockers aren’t natural peg dogs (and this one is worked in a variety of roles, which doesn’t help), but would prefer to try and address the issue rather than restrict her to walked up only. She is an excellent dog in all other respects, but I won’t take her on a peg again unless I can address the whining.

If she's such an excellent dog in all other respects, than maybe just put up with the whining? It can't really matter that much when there's so much other noise going on on a driven shoot. It would be a different matter if you were taking her stalking, where quiet is essential.
It would be a sad thing to effectively ban her from doing what she loves to do, just because of a minor fault. Just wear ear plugs and live with it.

I agree it’s a great shame (for me and her), but it really does matter- both for me and the other guns (and their own dogs). Unfortunately it’s not a minor fault.

So, just expanding the argument a bit. Why is the whining a problem? Is the silent dog a product of an era when, like women and children, dogs were seen and not heard and that to have a nosy dog, no matter how good at retrieving, was a social gaffe? We get a tad excited when England finally run with the ball, but as long as we don't invade the pitch is it a problem.

I would cherish her/him, maybe get close in to her and kneel down at her, bit of stroking whilst waiting to calm her, maybe a few biscuits to take her mind off the excitement, then keep looking for birds and spring up into action, also I always have earmuffs on whilst waiting with a shotgun, at least she should be able to help you after the drive, picking up.

Why does it matter so much?
Genuine question.
I accept that it would be better if she were quiet but, all other things being equal, I can't see that it's really such a big deal given that she's so good at everything else.

I've trained a lot of dogs, but not gundogs. Generally, the ones with the faults make good work dogs but not for competition.

i couldnt cope with a whining dog, my girlfriend terrier cross does it. spoils the moment for me.
i can fully understand where the op is coming from. only solution incan think of us someone else hold the dog near the pegs and corrects it when it whines, praise wwhen its quiet. and dont let it retrieve of the peg till its perfect.
good luck

The owner of the dog might not mind a whine on peg but if you on a let day that you have saved your hard earned for the last thing you want to hear is next pegs dog, cockers will start off whingeing and end up in full scream as birds start flying and dropping around.
It's an etiquette thing on driven shoots

If it spoils the moment for you shut it in another room 😊😄

Best to pass it on to someone who wants a rough shooting dog then. Everybody happy that way, including the dog.

Cbd wont work. I tried it with mine. Even an electric collar at full chat won’t calm the excitement. Gave up now just turn my ear defenders off and shoot at night on my own so he can run and howl to his hearts content. Little bastard cost me a shot at a nice skein of pinks last week as his excitement got the better of him. Could have murdered him and spent the next 45 minutes seriously weighing up shooting him. But then like all cockers he ****ed off somewhere on the marsh and I dropped a wigeon 50 yards from where I was sat in the pitch black and thick cover. He came straight back pointed where it was and did a sterling blind retrieve no messing and no whining like a superstar. They just need to be busy imho.
