Cheap .243

I would try to find a good condition Parker Hale and also speak to Norman Clarke to see if he has one or better still could make you one from the Parker Hale stock of parts he acquired when PH went bust.

I bought this in 6mm Remington from him a couple of years ago, stock parts but unfired apart from proof testing, I love it. Not screw cut so loud and a bit of recoil but so well balanced without the mod either on the shoulder or on sticks or indeed off hand.

It’s a lovely looking thing, so long as it does a job I’m not too fussy on what it is really. I’ll wait for my variation to come through and give him a call

I could sell it though, then use a light round for foxes and heavy for deer.

Don't make life difficult, just use the same ammo for foxes that you would for deer, the foxes won't know the difference.

A Parker hale .243 will do the job and are great rifles. You should be able to get a decent one for free or £100 if you look around. I’ve given several away for free over the years

A 22-250 mate, I’d be very hard pushed to part ex it. I might be abit sentimental but it the first new rifle I had every bought and I did a lot of over time to pay for it.

Ah ok, I’m the same with my 6.5x55 to be fair.

If it wasn’t sentimental then .243 with 58 grains of basically the same as 22-250 with a 55 so would do the job admirably.

But keep it and find a sleeper, plenty of used .243s out there for not a lot. I sourced a near mint cz550 for a mate and he loves it.

There is a reason no-one bring Savage into the UK and Parker Hales have killed more deer than Motorways

I’m quite interested by that especially as you know what you are talking about - ended up with a savage m16 on 243 because it was exceptionally cheap (new at auction). Other than being cheaply slung together it’s pretty good functionality wise and the accu-trigger is decent. I couldn’t ever love it like I love my BSA but it is very user friendly.

Dangerous assumption....

They are cheap and from a friend who ran a large US manufacturer he indicated the cost of these things is ridculous

Wow that looks concerning! would it happen in the first few uses if not caused by using incorrect ammo / home loads etc? I hope they go through our uk proof testing requirements to be sold here.

most likely barrel blockage from a squib
point being that the burst test video of about 20 brands showed all the US ones breach and look like this
all the European ones just bulged
