Chiller rails

Evening guys,
I know this has been well covered but I’m wondering if anybody on here is using the CRW chiller rails as pictured?
Do you have pictures of the installation in your chill if you are?
Can I ask to see them if you do?

I’m looking at getting them to fit into a converted box van chiller. Just need to see best figment to prevent stress on roof.

They will be used to hang reds.

Many thanks in advance 🦌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You might be able to do it cheaper using sliding door track.

To prevent stress on the roof, put a length of box section on the top of the roof outside that matches the line of the track on the inside, and bolt right through that and the ceiling at each of the track fixing points.

I was thinking that originally however the sliding door track is not load rated above 70kg and if it is the price starts to rise.

I understand the bracing of the roof. That I will do.
Have you done something similar?

Yes, but I had an aluminum rail fabricated to fit. Bolted through the ceiling and a length of box section, as I described, in a converted lorry back.

Are you sure about the sliding door track? I would have thought an industrial strength track would bear more than 70kg. Plenty of people have successfully used them in game larder.

cheaper ones are lower rated. I just thought that CRW rails looked good and they come already with the sliders and hooks etc.

I have these, they’re great, BUT!!! the corner sections are utter crap, if you’re doing straight lines brilliant but not if you intend having a bend

Had multiple lowland reds up to 180kg larder weight hanging on it at one time

I like the buller stuff having a quick look on there website but man it’s expensive!
Angel refrigeration is great but i dont have the height to have the freestanding rails once you take into account hook\gambrel\internal rails.

I like that rails system And will go with that only thing is getting them up onto the hook! Need to devise a winch set up somehow

My rail extends out of the door of the chiller by about 2ft through a cut out at the top of the door, with an electric winch mounted on a bracket above it. The winch cable runs down right alongside the extended parf of the chiller rail. I winch the carcasses straight off the back of my vehicle up to the right height, then transfer to chiller rail rollers. Releasing the load from the winch leaves the carcass hanging from the roller on the rail.

If you have limited height for a winch you could floor mount it and have a pulley above that way it is just the top part of the pulley. The other way round the depth of bracket + the winch will make a difference with limited height.

Floor mount winch would work. I love that idea. Didn’t even think of that. Have a pulley directly in front of rail and then just push it into the runner

I wouldn't bother with those weak track rails. I made up two of these rails for skid hooks in my chiller trailer I built. Two strips ontop of the roof and I can hang two quartered cattle beasts in there weighing 3/4 ton. Food grade grease on the rail and it runs smooth as.

Welcome, I would make a base plate with a couple of pins to fit the winch mount and put 6mm R clips through that way you can put it away if you have a wash down.
Or bit of studding welded from the back and bolt it....
The weakest bit is the pulley mount, I had a pit prop brace under my hand pulley as Dad could only afford 3x2 when he built it but I made a span from a Acro prop from the wall plate to a 7x3 centre brace.

I've got those rails you mentioned in your previous post. They are solid and I can recommend (can't comment on bends as mine are straight). I cut the daft hooks off them and use an s-hook straight onto the eye.

Fittings - I drilled holes in mine (maybe they come pre-drilled but I've definitely added more holes) and use a number of M8 coach bolts straight through the insulated panels, nuts on the outside with big flat washers or a bit of plate to spread the load.

Yeh I remember 75, how are you getting the carcass up to the hook? I inch how have you set that up if so?

They’re far from weak in a straight line I can assure you

You probably need your pulley above rail height to take into account hook / gambrel etc. Sliding straight onto those rails you noted would be possible but tricky. Basically, you want to lower the carcass onto something attached to the rail already and move it around once it's off the hoist - you've got little leeway for horizontal movement of a 100kg lump when it's hanging in the air.

I've got the headroom for a hoist above, but you could achieve the same with a ground level hoist and pulley above the chiller. I don't have rails that extend out of the door like @VSS noted above, but my hoist cable runs as close as I can to the front of the chiller. I winch deer above the height I need, and while still on the hoist attach a long s-hook from gambrel to sliding eye on the rail in the chiller then lower the hoist and the load is transferred to the rail. It's not as smooth as a rail that extends out but it works and I get reds in on my own without any trouble. I use transfer gambrels which make it a touch easier. Give me 10 mins and I'll go and take some pics...
