Thinking of buying 1 of the above kind of leaning towards this one
Competition Electronics Prochrono Digital Chronograph
Any help and advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Had one forr a few years and find it to be accurate. Only problem is that I sometimes have difficulty reading the screen in bright conditions. They have a later model with bluetooth which lets you see the results on your smartphone as well as controlling it from there. It will save you getting off the rifle and going forward to review your string and changing strings. Much more user friendly, especially if you are on the range with other shooters on the firing line - you won't need to wait until the range is safe before being able to go forward to the chrony.

That's the 1 I am thinking off with the Bluetooth can't find 1 in stock anywhere at the moment,

The optical chronographs all suffer to some extent from the effect of variation in light quality. This can affect accuracy of results. I understand that the accuracy of the Caldwell is the best of the bunch other than the Oehler but it may be worth looking at the Magnetospeed (the sporter version is quite keenly priced). The Labradar is fab but expensive

I've an unused, still in box, and with a quality tripod, "Chrony" chronograph for sale. I bought it just before I had to sort out my late mother's chattels so never got the time nor space to use it and it has stayed in the box ever since.

Magnetospeed V3. Never worry about the light, weather or going forward at a range again. Quality.

Agreed. So easy to work up a load with. Load up 10 rounds, each one with 0.4grain increments from start point upwards.

Go to field, fire in to a ditch with magnetospeed attached which all in takes about 2 mins to show you what velocities are, where flat spot nodes are, where you might start to see pressure signs etc etc.

Then go home, load up 5 at your chosen seating depth, normally around 20thou from lands mark and bingo. My last work up took less than 3hrs in total which included brass prep, charging and seating, velocity testing and then fine tuning and shooting for group.

You soon make your money back and also have reliable velocities to use for stuff like strelok and fun gunning at silly ranges.

Cannot believe it took me so long to get one.

If you folks weren't required to own the dumbed-down version of the Lab Radar, I would suggest that unit. With magneto speed all you get is velocity which doesn't tell you half the story. With Lab Radar you can track the bullet down range and thereby calculate actual ballistic coeffecient of your bullet under your shooting conditions. Invaluable when you want a true ballistic picture.~Muir

I use a Magnetospeed having shot my previous chronograph!
I was hired by a manufacturer to evaluate a LOT of rimfire ammunition that they had received complaints about. At one point in the long day of testing a round went "pffft!" and the bullet hit my chrony. IT still read the velocity of 240 fps and despite having a hole through it, it still functioned. The manufacturer bought me a new chronorgaph but I still used that dinged up one with the new one as backup. I was chronographing one day and bragging to my shooter buddy how this old chrono still worked despite the abuse it had taken. I was shooting my 308 and on the first round, blew that old chrony to bits of electronic gibberish. Fate, I guess.~Muir

Sadly a full fat Labradar is too dangerous to own in this fair country, the skinny version we can own will still track to 60 metres, more with a biggish bullet

Tracking to even 60M would be informative.
Yes. Here in the reckless US Lab Radar users must keep fire extinguishers handy to put out fires caused by the powerful doppler waves. Many a careless shooter has walked into the beam and then burst into flames...... Tragic.~Muir

Just looked at the Magnetospeed V3 looks very good bit more than I wanted to pay, but suppose you get what you pay for, thanks for all your help
