Clients letting people down

Malcolm, "hard and fast" Get use to it, Ive been self employed for years some people don't know, there ear hole from there arsehole they don't care either if you go down the deposit route they still don't care try getting them to pay it in the first place .

But when the boot is on the other foot the moaning is awesome, all the Ive taken time off my work and the rest of the crap they come away with, been there so many times had them last year in the snow two clients 4x4 the ish we cant get up the snow, I'm driving a van and got up no problem the whinnied for days i cant do anything about the snow, when i did take them out i took them to the target the couldn't hit a bit of A4 paper useless just get use to it theres plenty of good days and people but for every good 1 theres 5 that are useless the excuses would make a good after dinner speech .

ENJOY

working for a employer is a dream

Malcolm, I promise not to cancel our booking unless my legs fall off or something similar. Also, I'm perfectly happy to pay a deposit, and in fact I'd expect to. After all, it's a fair amount of commitment in time and resources on my part also, I want to make sure that it all works out!

Dont worry if your legs fall off I will take that as a legitimate excuse  Look forward to meeting you.

Best wishes

Do you think that maybe some people book stalking to get FAC..... then cancel at the last minute?

Just a thought

They could do SI but there would then need to be a paper trail .What i will say malcolm while you might be up set i am not sure if showing it so outwardly on the net is a good idea. Working for your self you will need to realise there is not back up plan and these guys that come out will from now on be your bread and butter not your wee extra. ;)

Over this past season I have had a huge number of clients out stalking, many have gone away with deer, some more than others and many have re booked. However I have had a couple let me down, which considering the amount of people I deal with is an insignificant number.

This past few days I had someone off this site booked in with a friend. My ground is about 90 minutes drive away and I have a bothy I sleep in on the estate. As I am now doing this full time professionally, time is money, and having arranged for another friend off this site to help guide, who has an elderly mother who is almost bed ridden so he had to rearrange his whole weekend for the booking. Plus it was -4 so sleeping in the bothy was not something I was relishing, but with the fires on it not to bad.

I then get a phone call 24hrs before the expected arrival from the client telling me that because it appears the weather is going to turn for the worse, his friend who is an older man is not prepared to travel and they were not coming.

I also had another client this winter phone me 10 miles from Dorchester where I had arranged to meet him to stalk and also tell me he had a slight cold and because it looked like rain tomorrow he was not coming on the booked stalk . This was after both Robin and myself had driven 4 hours towing a quad bike to be there.

Whilst I have no issue with people having family problems or being genuinely ill, what I do have a problem with is clients not having the decency to tell me well in advance that they are not coming and my wasting time and money as a self employed person with overheads to pay.

So if you have booked to stalk with folk off this site or for that matter anywhere, please do not make feeble excuses. Some on here are trying to make a living, and therefore cannot afford to loose money.

Thank you
hi malc

Davie,

as I have said I have been in the game long enough, not upset just putting a point across without naming anyone. And it has never been a wee extra as running and paying for the size leases I have had takes some organising and time. Thanks for the concern.

Lets move on.

Best

Don`t worry about your legs falling off mate ....................................... Malcolm is bringing the quad.

As bad as it is when people let you down I have heard as many horror stories from people who payed and got nothing, not even seen a deer that was shootable, and having paid up in advance there was no sign of getting there money, luckily these providers soon go out of business but clients are less likely to want to pay in advance.

....isn't one of the issues what constitutes 'reasonable' in terms of scrubbing the day?

"Legs falling off" would seem reasonable (if unlikely!!), whereas baling out of a day's stalking 'cos you've got a teensy weensy sniffle....what's that all about???? PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER MAN!

i booked days stalking with well known stalker off this site, after ringing him constantley the night before about placeto meet he said it had been raining that day and forecast will be same next day,so he wouldnt be stalking.iam selfemployed and lost days work because he couldnt be bothered

I don't know if there is one but may be a terms of agreement could be wrote up i see David from BASC had one for pheasants may be it could be changed for deer. But i thin what happened to malc was very unfortunate and what happened to td was the same .could something have been done to avoid these disappointments then something positive could come out of the post.;)

Davey i was more peed off because he wouldnt answer his phone till 9oclock by this time it was to late to sort work out for next day ,a phone call earlier would have been serfice ive been stalking with five different stalkers off this site so he didnt put me off

these things happen and can happen both ways thats life i am afraid went to a restaurant sat night a bit posh in the sticks .....it snowed hard no very hard we were nearly in there on our own when its normally packed ,when i asked the owner he replied he had over 50 cancellations because of the snow and on average £80 to £150 a pop x 50 you do the maths........ expensive, with staff to pay and fresh food in he was not a happy camper ,sorry it happened malc just something you may get hard too .:(

In both cases things happen to a certain extent but clients saying they have colds and stalkers that you would think need/want the business to use its raining are poor excuses ,what ever happened to a gentlemans agreement.

Thank you

Malc,

Your trouble is that you are of the generation where you are a man of your word, your word is your bond and your courtesy is on par with your diplomacy.

Trouble is not everyone extends the same level of thought, consideration and manners. I know a couple of stalkers who have stopped taking people out professionally because of the way they were treated, not to mention the land poaching people tried after being out.

Malc, take a deposit...like others have said non-returnable within 48hrs of the stalk, no matter the weather.

T

It`s true what others have said. Anyone who grumbles at paying a deposit is the most likely to renage on the booking anyway.

I was looking over the shooting let agreement for game birds yesterday, and yes it could eaily be changed to cover stalking, I will get on with it!

David

I always expect to pay the full amount in advance for stalking.

It gives everybody peace of mind and if I can't get there it's my loss.
