Converting heavy duty camera tripod into rifle mount

I’m using a Manfrotto 055 with a ball head and clamp and have no issues. For fox control on my regular permissions I have a couple survey tripods pre positioned at my favourite vantage points and shoot of a bag. (I prefer this to a ball head and clamp). The survey tripods are amazingly stable with a flat top and sand bag but quite heavy.

I use a shadow tech try pod, the top rest ive made from carbon tube, with Y shapes also out of carbon, but the best thing you can do
is machine the camera spigot of the ball mount , then machine and fit a top hat 3/8 unc mount as in the pics , this stiffens it up a huge amount, and because
you've spread the weight there's hardly an wobble so to speak , I always have a spare ball mount , just incase the one I'm using goes tits up.
Here it is with my FX mounted on it.

I note you’re not using the centre column for height. Good choice.

Also really like that you are supporting the but. That will offer a huge amount of stability.
