I'd be grateful a rough indication of the cost per tonne for bags of feed wheat delivered in bulk (say between 5 and 10 tonnes). Thanks.

Usually buy it ex farm
varies year to year month to month day to day
prices published in farming mags
but £150 to £160 per tonne collected at present.
obviously more delivered

you will pay dear for ready bagged wheat if you can find it. is it for pheasant??we have to bag ours up by hand-we have about 4 t--bloody hard work though as we bag it and put it out same day when we can

When you arrange a work party for syndicated shoots you will always find that is the best day NOT to meet other members. We had a shoot captain that could drag a deer out of a ravine but could only claim a bad back when asked to carry wheat to a hopper.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, it would be pheasant feed. Probably 25kg bags, as the only storage would be a garage.

5t=you are gonna need a bigger garage!!. as per members not turning up-we are lucky as it is expected and need good reason not to be there, but talking to other people work parties always could reason not to show up!!

If you want it delivered in small 20Kg bags you will be paying double
the cost of bulk bags,
1 tonne is a pallet full of 50 x 20 Kg bags

expect to pay £6 to £8 a bag.

little and often is the best way to feed pheasants
(and other birds..mice..rats..squirrels deer badgers )

best to ask local farmer to get you 1/2 tonne a month
in a bulk bag , then bag it up yourself,
unless your syndicate is rich, then order mixed wheat and bird seeds
which is excellent but will cost £10 to £15 for a 20Kg bags

We are paying just under £190 per ton delivered in 25kg bags. I know it works out more expensive this way but it is much easier to get round the shoot this way.

Find yourself a farmer who grows nothing but grain and ask him for some tailings. These are the small grains which are left after they have cleaned up but are no good for the big grain buyers for bread etc. They are too small to mill for stock feed as they would have to be ground and would come out like flour. Some Stock farmers would sell you some but would probably be a lot more expensive. current price for wheat is £164 tonne but depends on what area you live as London,Essex is £161 and north west about £170.
Then it depends on how many tonne, the more you buy the cheaper but that would be about 20 tonne plus and not bagged.

Just paid, £220 per ton, in 25 kg bags collected from the farm he said £180 per ton loose
Wingy

Try to persuade the farmer to deliver it in a tipping trailer with a small shutter which you can bag it from. Better still get them to leave the trailer at the shoot under cover and propped up!
