Crazy 2025 price rises on BA. Who else?

Partly why I grudgingly decided to use the camp rifle.

Hypocrite alert.

Once 'forced' to use the Camp rifles - not terrible, not great - but did not adversely effect the trip.

Should do it next time.

However.

I have long wished to take a .275 to Africa. My .275 to Africa.

That's the plan.

Next trip.

My .275 to Africa.

Suck it up buttercup.

Heathrow - Border Force - SAP - Jo'Berg....can't wait...😖

@Stalker62 , you should seriously consider Namibia.
I am not in the least bit adverse to Namibia - I hear only good things about the place.

However. I (usually) travel as only 25% of our group, and so it has to be a consensus.

We are 'pencilled in' 2026 and I think that is going go be RSA - but I will be taking the .275 wherever we end up.

I basically looked into it. They’ve got decent rifles in camp. So as long as I keep the distances sensible.. ‘should’ be fine

But it’s nice to have your own. A bit like hiring a car..

You will be.

And if I had any sense, that is what I would do. Camp rifle.

It is just that stupid itch, to take my own .275 to Africa. Utter nonsense and I should know better.

I don't.

More fool me.

Thats a hell of a lot of paperwork and from my last time at Heathrow with 5 guys with rifles, we only just made the flight. We flew Ethiopian and the staff at Heathrow were incompetant. Ethiopian staff in Addis Ababa and Windhoek were first class.

I have flown Virgin LHR to Johannesburg a number of times with firearms and found them very good. Bear in mind If you go BA you need to add £500 for rifle and ammo box return journey

That's exactly what BA quoted me for London - Johannesburg in June. I decided not to take my own rifle on cost grounds. I want to fly with BA because I had Avios points I to use.

I even looked at upgrading to Business Class thinking that firearms may be included in the ticket price, sadly not, even if you fly BA First Class you are still charged for firearms

Best bet is Virgin but Ethiopian, Qatar and Emirates all go but with a stop in their country first. BA will have your pants down on firearm charges whereas Virgin charge £65 for the ammo box only.
Pick up a couple of boxes locally when you arrive. Safari Outdoors is ten minutes from Oliver Tambo. Or if flying to the Eastern Cape your outfitter should know where to source ammunition. Windhoek has at least 3 gun shops .
If you don’t load your own it nearly makes sense to pick it up when you arrive. Less hassle, less luggage, less grief.

Why didn't I think of that! Maybe I will take my rifle...

Ironic isn't it, Heathrow the worst...

I actually found Manchester to be good when going boar shooting in Croatia.

Border Force or airline staff - can I ask?

I got an text from BA this morning. They have a sale on. There was a significant discount from the full fare, that I booked with points

This was my experience, complete lack of knowledge of how to deal with procedure and paperwork with Lufthansa. The lack of/conflicting information in advance was frightening, in practice it went quite smoothly.

Border Force at Manchester turned up quick, luck of the draw I guess. They were helpful and cracked on although had to write everything in their notebook as, amazingly there is no form for firearms. Also they weren't allowed to take a photo of my FAC, passport etc even though everything had to be entered onto 'the system' on a computer when they got back to the desk. Very inefficient.

Luckily I was on my own, the week before they said they had a party of ten going board shooting and it took over an hour

Is it worth taking a photocopy as well, would they take that to save time?
