Crossover Vehicle Choices

Afternoon Everyone,

Over the Winter I am going to be looking at getting a crossover type car or one with good ride height
and decent enough boot space that's good/not bad on fuel.

Still going to go for diesel regardless of the current in-trend towards hybrids and electric cars as I do 20k/22k avg miles a year.

There's so many on the market available does anyone have a crossover or a model they could recommend I have a look at.

Been recommended / advised the Kia Sportage (MK3 & MK4 1.7 CRDI), Renault Kadjar (1.5 / 1.6 DCI) are ones to consider,

After being in my mates crossover appreciate the higher ride height of these type of cars

Dunno if it counts but my mates missus drives a dacia. Not the prettiest of things (neither is she though!) but the couple times I've been in it it was capable on farm/woodland tracks (nothing extreme)
my guess it would be the duster nice, oh aye I think I have been in one of those years ago after a good night out,

I'll take a butchers at those too, they seem to go for ok money think their glass is pilkingtons and they share components Dacia
with the Renault and Nissan Brands.

Yeah what I am looking for is something capable of going on tracks and onto my perms fields but nothing proper offroad like

Cheers BenBhoy nice one👍

There's a good thread on this topic from earlier in the year titled Freelander 2 by member ColinBr. If I could work out how to post a link I would 🤔 Lots of suggestions on there.

Kia Sportage gets good reviews from everyone I know that has one.

Skoda Octavia Scout would be my recommendation, I had one and it was fantastic.

Cheers Suliven I will have a look for it, search function on this site is miles better than outlook

Yeah they do still lots of mk3's on the road the one that made it popular and the mk4, the latest ones started to appear quite a bit
going to go for the 1.7 crdi engine if I do go for a sportage,

One of my ex work colleagues had the Octavia Scout and he recommended it too

I use a Nissan Qashqai (2WD) and it goes everywhere that everyone else on the shoot goes, takes me skiing & is my work vehicle for running up & down the country with a full load of equipment. I run the Goodyear Vector 4 seasons on it & find it great on snow or sitting water which I can hit at 60 mph safely (just). It’s a diesel & I get around 48-51 mpg, doing about 18,000 pa. I paid £6,000 for it & have so far put another 60,000 on the clock. No issues whatsoever apart from suspension issues from potholes. It’s also big enough for me at 6’2” although the back seat space isn’t ideal if your passengers are tall.

I wanted to replace my Scout with another one, but they are no longer sold in the UK. I'm driving a Skoda Karoq currently and the shorter wheelbase is more off road friendly, but there's much less space in the boot.

Lots of manufacturers seem to be pulling the plug on their models they make,

Cannot believe People buy those new electric Tesla's and think they are buying a good car

Was in a car park few weeks back and some lass got out of the suv they make
I thought the door was made out of real cheap material by the sound it made when she opened it,

Wouldn't buy one of those or the Polestar's even if i won the lottery.

How do you find the Karoq to drive and how is it on the fuel, good ride height and comfort?

Nice sounds like a good buy I will add it onto the list to check out cheers McKenzie, ah right good for long journeys too?,

It's what I am looking for good ground clearance, better ride comfort, decent mpg for its size and space for kit in the back of the car

I would also give some consideration to a Subaru Forrester, better ground clearance than most of the competition, 4WD when you need it, 40 - 50 mpg (depending how you drive it), seat 5 with comfort and a decent sized boot.

Another Forum member has a petrol Karoq and I've sat in that one a lot. I like my diesel Karoq and the current long term average is 49mpg. I like the car. Just a little short on boot space, but you can't have everything.

nice mpg for a car its size, my current car gets about 52mpg ish,

true least you can fold the seats down though, like one guy once said everything's a trade off.

I had a bmw 3 series a few years ago and the person who bought it new didn't bother with a split fold seat option,

that was fun for getting kit in and out of the boot for going on my shooting perms haha and when I first went guided deer stalking

will take a look at it and put it on the list thanks Blitzking, seen a few posts in the past recommending the forrester.

nice thats good 4wd and decent mpg, well i do a motorway run every few days to work and back so to have something that can
reach 50 mpg and be good for going to shooting perms and deer stalking is good nice one.

Have a look at the VW Passat All track, tiguans and older A4 All roads or q5s ( latest gen too full of buttons and touch screens).

Dacia Dusters branded as Renaults in some markets. Wife’s colleague had one (he is a forester so always up and down forestry tracks). He raved about it, but after 3 years hard use it was pretty shagged. We had a Kangoo for a long time - brilliant machine.

A mate has a Kia Sportage diesel and it's a great all round choice for a bit of limited off road work and as a general family run about. Loads of space too. Subaru Forrester way better off road bet, as are older Toyota Rav 4's (don't let age or high milers put you off, they're excellent cars even the 2nd generation ones). We had both a Gen 2 Rav 4 which was superb off road and a Lexus RX450AWD (which we still have) which is the best all round car we've ever owned. We'll run that one into the ground. It even manages some off road with no dramas but the likes of the Rav or sportage 4wds are more suited to that. Skoda Yeti and newer Scout both get rave feedback from owners.

Got the 2.crdi awd kia faultless economy (54mpg ) .Don't go near the 1.7 too many horror stories very poor rep engine.
Lockable diff, traction control, hill start ,Aircon, all the bells n smells love it .
Good tyres means I go where the Isuzu and Nissan,s go on our shoot.
Boots had 3 deer in It ,comfortable on the motorway or fields well worth it imho.

There's so many on the roads (Sportage) they must do something right, massive plus for the sportage is the sheer amount of kit you get with them
in the 3 and 4 spec models, I rarely see those about the RX Lexus these days one truly well designed car inside and out like the look of those.

The Rav4 is a real good off roader aye, yeah the yeti and the scout are good options isnt the yeti though best avoided with the pan roof due to leaks?
