CWD tanning

Me or the OP?
You, I wanted to do a CWD skin like a fox what are cased cut, If that's what you did it looks really nice and basically what I envisioned in my mind, Even if It has a gralloch cut it still is excellent.

K-Tan Tanning Kit : Amazon.co.uk: Beauty for the tanning kit, I swear there's a version that comes with the knife...? as far as I'm aware they do work though unlike other non-pickling home tans.

I looked at the K-Tan kit for this.
Might pressure washt the flesh off instead of scraping.

Spookily…my son has a rabbit fur in the freezer at the moment he wants to tan…I have no idea how this is done but he’s adamant he’s going to give it a go…what’s the process?

Stretch the skin on a frame, scrape and then salt until dry?

Yeah, then use a tanning solution either bought or homemade

Tanning is an annoyingly tedious process to do it correctly, Its why a lot of old deer mounts from the early 1900's look rough and shrunk, but the ones from the 70's onward still hold up to time Its because chemical related tans became the norm.
We figured out some extra steps made the quality better, Most notably salting and pickling.
I dont know the exact science why we pickle but I at least know combined with the initial salting It swells the hide up (making it easier to thin, e.g sika necks) and makes It accept the chemicals much better.

Standard dumbed down, chemical tan would be this below.

Flesh.
Salt.
Wash
Pickle
(Flesh a bit more)
Neutralize
Tan (Stretch whilst drying)

Let me see if I can find it, but someone posted a sika with a several inch thick skin.
