DCS1 practical questions

I've found info on line regarding the requirements.
It says you can use sticks for standing. Does this include tripod?
Can you use sticks/tripod for the sitting bit?
I have a knee issue. Is the prone mandatory? I wouldn't choose to shoot prone in the field.
I presume a bipod for prone?

Bipod or rest for prone is mandatory.
Sticks for standing - tripod should be ok provided you take your own and can erect them within a few seconds, and would need to be agreed in advance.
Sitting or kneeling element is usually done off short sticks.

As far as I am aware the mandatory tests are 100 yards prone 2 rounds, 70 yards sitting or kneeling off sticks 2 rounds all into 4" target, and finally 10 yards standing off sticks, 2 rounds into the head (2" bull).

Anyone come across anything different.

My understanding was prone is the most stable shooting position so can only be used at 100 however when I used to have to do the L1 test annually for a lease I shot all of the ranges standing off twin sticks as that’s how I do most of my culling and it didn’t provide me any unfair advantage but that’s up to the assessor and/or DMQ

70 can be standing. 100 says prone or simulated high seat. I'd ask about standing 100 if you find it difficult to use prone, they should make a reasonable adjustment like this.

Here is the assessment criteria from DMQ. As Buchan says, ‘Reasonable adjustments’ can be made in the case of genuine disability or medical condition at the discretion of the Assessor and RCO/RSO. The standard must still be achieved.

If anyone is expecting to have problems with any of the Assessments (including the written ones) then it is in everyone’s best interest to discuss them honestly and openly with the Assessor well in advance; they can only help you if they know.

I paid BDS £6.00 for the official target to practice on.
On the day of my test i went blank but remembered to positions of both circles to parts of the head and body.
Thank god i passed having never stalked before.
Laid down for the 100y then used my sticks for the 70. and 20 never used my sticks before day of test.
Plus do the online test questions it helps and i am thick .
At 65yrs old others half my age thought i had got the hump and walked out of the test.
SO the online did help me

Ditto... I Didn't have access to a deer legal rifle to get much practice with the DMQ target, but got used to the aim points with the WMR. Seemed to do the trick, 3 zeroing shots with a BDS rifle, then 6 target shots.
Was first out of every paper test, my mind set always having been if I change an answer, I was probably right in the first place :)

I did my test with the estate rifle had to be fired as it was and could not be altered to suit me.
Did not do any test with my 22lr just learnt the circles location from ear to ear and leg to side of the body a rough area .
Got away with it in the rain . still don't know how

Try practicing on the bushwear targets which show the internal organs on the reverse side , it will help with shot placement when you go out stalking.

As Trick66 pointed out there are two I did my one with BDS as did not know about DSC training. Good luck
f17ant book a large game and meat hygiene course asap as changes in April

timbrayford will look into the bushwear targets 👍
