December foxing!

Just back in I went to check something outside and I took a wee head torch with me to see what I was doing I decided to just take a wee quick glance around the fields see if there was anything about low and behold at 100 yards away that reflection of eyes that get the heart racing! A fox! I had no caller with me so I hastily improvised some kind of sqweak from my lips it sounded woeful and my furry friend thought so too and legged it! Every 50 yards they looked back and I give it another earful and away it went! Never to be seen again.... Aw well turned the torch away to come back home and what was there no more that 50 yards away?? Another fox I totally did not know was coming to my improvised call! I started calling again and it keep coming closer then started going around me to get behind me i guess to wind me only problem was it was now in the farmyard! I have never experienced this before but the adrenaline was pumping I can't wait to get out again with my rifle this time and hopfully get one.

Have any of you chaps have anything similar happen to you?

Yep had a lot around home this season ,I went Solo to a deer permission I had last night more for a night time deer count than foxing but always take rifle and a call . Had I been with my mate I’d have had one very quick but it winded me but soon heard another calling so went after that to no avail turned back to the vehicle and bingo think I intercepted the first fox 🦊 and a happy farmer 👩‍🌾

Nice one! Just shows ya to never give up when you think it's all over. I think the first one I seen was a older seasoned one it was a lot more wary the next one I am guessing was one that was born this year and hasn't got the knowledge of danger of lamps!

I had two last night only a mile up the road from my house. Just after shooting them I also saw another fox on two occasions - whether it was the same one that had looped back on itself and covered the same ground again or a second individual I don't know. By then the fog had closed in so it was time to go home. I will be back...

I was out last night early doors......6pm ish.

As soon as I set up on the truck and put the caller out, saw the first one in the thermal at 250yds....mad scramble to switch on IR and NV then dropped it.....phew relax and breath !

20 minutes of calling later.....second one came charging in to the caller, and stopped it at 150yds...second one down (2 in 20 mins!)

Then the mist descended and although thermal worked fine, began to struggle with IR so decided to call it a day. Just put my thermal away and was starting to pack up when my mate started whispering "fox, fu****g fox!" I've now put my thermal away and turned of my NV and IR....he's whispering "20 yds in front of the truck, for f***s sake hurry up!"
NV switched on IR switched on, trying to calm down and then "there it is".....third one 84yds !

Three in the most adrenaline filled 45mins !

Thank god it's not like that every time, but does make me marvel at how they just appear like the shopkeeper in MR BEN (showing my age !)

Regards, Rob.

Question I suspect many are thinking, which call were you using.
Lots of frantic activity, socialising and calling among foxes this time of year.

Willowbank.

All three came to dog barking, with a bit of rabbit distress thrown in.

After we packed up and were collecting the foxes, could hear more barking in the cover strip so be back again tonight all being well.

Regards, rob.
