Decent boar last night

Went out last night to see what’s about as it’s been a little quiet on the boar for me since early Feb.

Under an hours drive later at about 9pm I get into the highseat and just 15 mins in this big old boy presents himself 110m away.

After a good solid headshot, an epic drag and recovery later worthy of a strongman contest, an hour later he’s in the chiller.

He’s 115kg 🐗 my biggest so far this year so very I’m a happy chap, cracked open a well earned beer after😬View attachment 358459View attachment 358460View attachment 358461
Absolute belter 👍

Just another for me this evening. Shooting many but every time is a thrilling time ...
We were out hunting yesterday. Really crap weather, snow that turned to rain and quiet windy .I was not expecting to see anything but was surprised when a brungris suddenly appeared 40 mtrs away. There was rain on the scope lenses but I managed to get a lung shot on the little pig as it trotted by. Brightened up a otherwise miserable morning.
The weather looks better for Saturday, our last driven day for this season.

Three days ago I tried a new bullet - Barnes TSX in .310". It is very effective and powerful. It completely crushed the boar's lungs. The bullet opened/deformed and the animal had no chance. I recommend it. Of the shortcomings - double price.
Hornady SST are also very effective and accurate. I recommend it. Do not use FMJ or Hornady Z-Max/V-max against boars.

In my .308, on driven days I'm using Remington .180grn premium bonded rounds. The only reason is that I bought quite a few boxes when they were selling them, buy one get one free. For the little 25kg boar I shot on Monday they were perhaps a bit of overkill. I have shot some big boar with the same bullet. If and when I use them all up I will use the .150grn fox classic hunter bullet that I use for other hunting.
I Use .180grn fox classic hunter in my 8x57jrs and I'm very impressed with that bullet.
I have a Lapua Naturalis .180grn round that also works very well. Again I was lucky to buy plenty of Naturalis bullets that will see me till I fall of my perch.
In the great run of things if a round of quality ammo was £10 a round it would not put me of boar shooting or stalking
