At work yesterday surveying some 132kv towers near Bradford and came across three deer that couldnt care less about me walking past.
or may be my bright yellow and reflective tape fleece is the new stalkers camo.
i just walked past them in the wide open around 30m away and passed them on the way back to the van and they couldn’t care less.
so thought I’d stick a pic up as it made me laugh at all the times I’ve gone out camo clothing stealthing about when really all I needed was a hi viz top and an Ipad. 🤦🏻‍♂️

There was a state park (off limits to shooting) that bordered private land a friend of mine had sole permission on.
The same deer that were instantly wary of our camouflaged skulking about would stand 3 feet off the running/biking path while the brightly colored Lycra clad people ram by. Many of those runners acted as if they were so into their run (or bike ride) that they never even noticed the deer.

I say this with certainty because our high seats we often just over the fence and sometimes 10 yards from the path. Those athletes never noticed us either.

We used to joke about dressing brightly and taking an armed Jog to get close to the one gigantic buck we could never quite get to cross the fence.

A tip for anyone out roe stalking
Instead of hugging the tree line down the ride walk down the middle loud and proud and above all whistling a happy tune
You’ll be surprised how many deer you’ll see. 😉

In part's of the country where there are a lot of crag rats going about deer will learn that they are no threat. However, wear the hill stalking outfit and it's a different story.

Sika will often come out to curiosity. I was out stalking along the open hill edge and had to make a telephone call halfway through the outing. To minimise the risk of cocking the stalk up, I went to the middle of the hill well away from the forest edge. After the call I turned around and sure enough there was a sika stag had sneaked in to eavesdrop on the conversation. Obviously I had to shoot him just in case he divulged any facts from the top secret conversation

Their instinct is to look out for prey animals creeping around slowly and quietly - if your movements don't match those then they don't automatically see you as a threat. My other half had some Roe deer in a horse field that just stood and watched her as she wondered around poo picking or feeding horses but whenever she took a camera out to try to get photos they were off as she tried to creep in quietly so as not to disturb them. I told her to take the bucket like normal then put it down take a few pics and then carry on, she got some great pics and if I recall one of them even appeared in a BDS Journal after it was submitted for a photography comp (it didn't get placed though ☹️)

Yep and if you have a mate with you get them to carry on walking/talking to himself whilst you have stopped behind a tree/bush and line up the rifle, you will see that the deer is intent on watching your mate.

If you truly don't want deer to be bothered by your presence, try stalking anytime of the year in any location in the UK without a rifle.

You will see hundreds...

It's a well known fact that deer don't see orange/red colours. Their eyes are built differently to humans. Our cousin's in North America successfully hunt in orange.
The only thing camo is good for is the bank accounts of the clothing makers.

I disagree, having hikers walk right by me instead of questioning me on my catch and/or berate me about the cruelty of hunting is worth every cent. Camo works best on humans.

Never hide from what you do. Stand up for it and educate the uneducated.
il leave that to the hunters union (metsästajaliito). I like my peace and quiet. Fortunately it is a criminal offense to obstruct or otherwise interfere with a legal hunt.

there are the ignorant who may be educated, and there is karen screaming in my face. I cant be bothered to find out wich is wich, the wilderness is vast so i rather law low and let the hiker hike right along.

We were stationed in several high seats to intercept Fallow, our leader said, why do we bother with all this sneaky drill as after the first shot several fallow had run up the field passed where he was hidden straight toward a groom pushing a wheel barrow?

BC.

You’ll bump deer on way through your stalk, but on walking normally back to the car after it’s too dark, same deer will be out again and just stand there looking at you
