Dewalt or Makita

i work for a builders merchants and spend a lot of time on sites and the general thought is that dewalt are not what they used to be and makita are up on or near the top of the pile, but as already said bosch profesional kit is good aswell not quite makita standard but if your just a diy-er and not using it all day every day it will certainly do what you want and more

I've just read most of the posts and my verdict is that makita and desalt both get about the same votes.
I think it goes down to which one turns you on the most :-D

15 years ago I use to import Dewalt cordless from the USA. The tools were built to a better spec that the offerings in U.K. Then Black and Decker stepped in and even the America purchased tools went drastically down hill. I remember purchasing a couple of 14.4v combo drills and burning both out within 10 days.

Agree with Bosch corded, have had a GCM 10 SD sliding mitre saw for just over a year, its in a league of its own.

Dewalt have been owned by Black and Decker since 1960. But I agree things went downhill a dozen or so years ago, about the time Black and Decker bought out US tool brand Porter-Cable (itself a subsidiary of Stanley) in 2004. Rumour has it they started using Porter-Cable internals across the Dewalt range including plastic gear wheels.

Ive had Makita cordless drills and thought they were good. However I recently got Milwaukee drill and impact driver and its made the makita ones feel like toys

If you've won the lottery and want cordless buy Festool.

Unless they've gone pants as well now...
Still seem to be reassuringly expensive.

Dewalt were good until they became Black and Decker, then they might as well be JCB!
Makita are awesome, but Festool are amazing.

You can get a decent range in the Milwaukee M18 fuel stuff and with the 5ah battery's good battery life during use as well

Have to agree, I never thought you could get such torque from cordless tools until using the above, simply awesome

Likewise, the 18v impact driver is unstoppable. I've had no issues driving 6 inch coach bolts straight into green timber no issues. Makes building anything off grid a doddle, not sure how I coped before!

I have always used a hammer to drive in coach bolts....don't think it would do any make of impact driver much good using it to whack those in...

6" inch coach screws on the other hand... :)

Every one that has come in for repair has been scrapped as you just cannot get spares...
Milwaukee come with a three year guarantee if you register on line.
I am runing a lot of Milwaukee power tools that are over 5 years old
and get hammered every day !!! any power tool that last that long
no mater what make is doing well on our job⚒

Very true but the Milwaukee is so tough I reckon I could use it as a hammer!
