This is based on a vague memory of someone telling me that they had a disease which was transmissable from rabbits to humans. I seem to remember that it affected his neck but I can't recall any more.

Can anyone shed light on this or did he have the wrong end of the stick?

Cheer up virtually all rabbits carry the bug Pasteurella multocida. Sniffles in lungs. Thats what makes them so dicy with anaesthetics. If you have come across abscesses in rabbits that is it as well. When sheep are crowded they also suffer a different Pasteurella infection that makes them cough The fellow obviously had a massive dose or his immune system was haywire.
