Have you tried the BDS or BASC?

There's quite a good one that some kind soul put on YouTube too

Sorry tried to post link, but anyway it's by Roestalker and called 'How I gralloch a deer '

hope that helps

Thanks mate ill have a look when I'm on the comp, I've got one I think it's from the bds but its old and outdated now I was told.

I'm in exactly the same position!

btw on a related subject and in case you haven't got it, the BDS Field Guide to Deer Diseases is excellent

There is no right or wrong way, as long as you take steps to avoid carcass contamination.
The BDS video is good, but if I remember correctly the illustrations are on bucks only. There are a few good ones on youtube too, I think Jelen and YDS ?

I know mate I'd rather just see exactly how they want it done and do the job and get it over with. Yes that's the one it's only bucks they shoot but gives an idea. It's just I was told you do this and that and then told by another person to do the opposite I'd rather just watch something that showed me how they want it done and do it that way then there's no hassle I heard there was a new DVD but couldn't find it ill get on YouTube next time I get a chance, cheers for the help.

It may be an old DVD but as already said, there is no right or wrong way so to speak.
1) start with a good stalk & approach
2) good shot placement makes it easier during the gralloch
3) know your stuff Q&A from DSC1
4) carry the right equipment
5) take your time and avoid any cross contamination
6) know where & how to find lymph nodes
7) clean extraction & larder procedures
Repeat 3 times job done

+1 it is up to you how you gralloch as long as it is clean and hygenic. An AW can not request you gralloch in any particular way. If you do want a good DVD then i can recommend David Strettons DVD The Stalkers Guide To The Gralloch. His telephone number is 01332 810757

As a witness and an assessor I get annoyed when I go to witness a level 2 and find the candidate all fingers and thumbs when gralloching the first beast. Many off them are proffessionals who have just got round to doing 2. I know they can gralloch better than they are performing for me. I ask if this is how they normally gralloch. The answer is always"No this is how I was told I had to do it for you". Get it into your heads lads THERE IS NO SET WAY TO GRALLOCH. I have seen umpteen different ways in the many many stalkers I have witnessed. They are all right as long as the carcase is clean and fit for human consumption. Also while getting it to this level you have been able to show the witness the lymph nodes.
No witness can tell you to do it another way, but make sure if you are going off your area to stalk on the witness's ground that you know how they want their animal for the larder. By that I mean things like splitting the haunches or not.

So keep gralloching as you have , make sure you know where to find lymph nodes and present a clean carcase.....JOHN

Totally agree. Its very hard work watching someone try to be something that they're not. Be confident in your work and be proud of your skills and knowledge. If you're not then you're not ready for your DSC2 simple as that.

If you have someone who is competent why don't you ask them to watch you prep a beast shot in your own time and be brutally honest - one of my early attempts was met with 'what the **** did you do that with, a chainsaw' ;). Practice as you have highlighted is key.

In addition to what John and Glyn have said it is a good idea to download or buy the 'Best Practice' guide, very informative and clear. Remember its not a race, take your time, and think. People put a lot of pressure on themselves (I know I did) with the DSC2 but if you are ready it shouldn't be too much of a problem, providing you have a successful stalk that is!!
