Spoke to my FLO today and looks like from last week in Dyfed Powys you have to submit a medical for a variation going forward with the medical being Valid for a further 6 months if a future variation is needed.

More pointless paperwork which will further burden FLO staff who will no doubt let the ball drop.

Get rid of variations, get moderators off ticket, 10 year licences, and then let the FLO staff actually monitor us so the next loony is picked up early.

As I said before, the Police, Civil service and HO are anti-civilian gun ownership and
will use any means to delay, prevent, stop civilian gun ownership.

Did you need a letter from a GP at your last renewal?
If not then this Dyfed Powys just getting into the GP letter thing
If you did need a GP letter for your last renewal then, compared to certificate holders who are not requesting variations, you are being discriminated against and should make a frredom of information request to Dyfed Powys Police asking them to explain their reasoning for this decision.

Cheers

I’m not complaining in my original post about this and having to provide a medical for a variation, in fact it doesn’t bother me at all really. Only issue I see really is the fact it’s only valid for 6 months.
Point of the post was to let others in the same force know what to expect on their next variation or renewal.

I think you, we should be bothered, if it’s only valid for six months, yet a certificate life is five years so will you be bothered if they tell you every six months you need to get another medical to continue to own your firearms?

Surly that tells us that the medical marker for ongoing monitoring is not working, possibly due to the GPs all not playing the game.

Wonderful, aren't they? They haven't contacted me since I left my local rifle club over four months ago. I still have my FAC with a rifle slot for purchase and am allowed to possess over 3000 rounds of various ammo. Another ex member sent them his FAC and SGC after stopping shooting and then 3-4 months later they rang to ask what he intended to do as his FAC was coming up for renewal. He pointed out that he has written to them and sent all of his certificates back, which they did then find gathering dust in their office.

If that is the case then the Police/Home Office ought to take it up with the BMA rather than impose a further needless burden on us and the GPs.

I totally agree, but don’t hold your breath that it will happen or anything good will come from it.
Far easier for the police to persecute us as they know we have no choice but to comply if we want to keep our firearms.

Doctors report not a medical. No medical request in HOGL
Medicals are for Fishermen/lifeboat etc ENG1 cert etc.

Simply not true.
Sorry but that statement is plainly wrong.
Leave law enforcement to the Police with the overwhelming support of shooting people and the general public.
Have Firearms licensing done by a public body with proper training. Make the Home Office Guidance mandatory.
Have a proper, fair, appeals system in place .
Have regular checks and audits on those who carry out the licensing process to ensure nationwide consistency.
Have more civilian FEO's instead of recruiting from the ranks of retired Police Officers and Armed Response Officers. Employ civilians with a shooting background and more extensive knowledge of firearms.

Make it mandatory for all licensing departments to answer the telephone during office hours, 5 days a week.!

My reply was based on the statement made at post #4.

It is simply not true that: "the Police, Civil service and HO are anti-civilian gun ownership and will use any means to delay, prevent, stop civilian gun ownership".

It is that statement which is simply not true.

Now. To the points you raise in your post #17.

  1. Agree.
  2. Agree.
  3. Not sure that there is not already a fair (subjective I know) appeals system already in place.
  4. Agree.
  5. Not sure that that is a valid argument, and does not (in my view) advance the case either way.
  6. Impossible, but I take your point.

We are not so very far apart, you and I.
